I second opening up a Mexican place. It doesn't have to be a Taco Bell.

I've only had Taco Bell twice and both times it's been crap. I don't know why Americans worship it so much. The food is often soggy and they use powdered cheese. It looks like it was mass-produced at maximum cost efficiency and it has the nutritional value of movie theatre nachos (which aren't all that different).

If there are bad Mexican places in Korea, then Taco Bell is the worst.

Where do you see the powdered cheese? They shake it on there?

Sounds like he pulled that one out his ass. The cheese at TB is real. The food quality is low, but the food is inexpensive. You get what you pay for and I don't understand how that concept confuses anyone.

Taco Bell isn't Mexican, it's Taco Bell. Fair enough if you don't like it. It's like saying Jester's Pies represents Australian food (god, I hope not). But assuming you're from Europe (or elsewhere), you really don't know just how bad places like "Taco Taco Chili Chili" and "Choi's Tacos" are.

None of those places can possibly be as bad as Taco Bell. I went to a few Mexican restaurants in HBC and one in Itaewon and they were all alright. Not great but alright.

Taco Bell is the equivalent of movie theatre nachos with powdered cheese. I stand by that.

The thing is...wherever it is you're from, you have very little credibility when speaking on what alright Mexican food is. I live 30 minutes away from Mexico. Likewise, you probably wouldn't take my word on French cuisine.

The vast majority of Itaewon Mexican food is crap. Taco Taco Chili Chili is crap. Taco Amigo is crap. If I had to choose between that and Taco Bell (which as has been said...apples and oranges), I'd take Taco Bell every time. The only half decent Mexican food I've had in Korea are the 3 Kings Taco Truck, which is an absurd ripoff, and Tomatillo, which I feel is pricy but worth it - especially the carnitas, fish, and california burritos.

Yes, the nacho cheese is similar to movie theater nacho cheese. That's what "nacho cheese" is in America - and Taco Bell is an American restaurant. Order dishes that don't use nacho cheese. Most dishes don't., Or maybe just stop ordering nachos - those aren't very Mexican!!! I mean, what are you ordering? Just nachos and the nacho fries everytime?

Your own business?!!! Now we are dreaming BIG! If you have a windfall coming from inheritance, I'd say put up about 30% of it to go into your dream line of work. You can save money from always staying employed at a $30,000 a year job if you aren't having kids, don't have fun like flying to a bunch of places, and live frugally full-time in a 1 room eating ramyeon and rice, but you'd be in your late 50's before you even had a few to several hundred grand in savings assuming your starting in your mid 20's. How did the previous generations do it? Companies were expanding and developing staff and salaries went up during a times of economic development such as from the teens to 1929 and from 1950 to 2001 with lifelong employment with the same company being the norm where they groom you up into the higher ranks. I'd say pass on the franchise, they are designed for big money investors looking for a long term profit from a chain of stores that work themselves with a small margin. If you can cook, invent gourmet recipes, and manage a store, then your own venture would be golden.

The Mom-and-Pop Taco place in Ilsan went bust two months ago. Problem: only foreigners ate there.

This is a country where the most successful Italian restaurants are the ones that use ketchup in lieu of home made pasta sauce. I'm looking at you, Sorrento...

Unfortunately you can't open a Taco Bell. Their franchising agreement requires you to commit to opening at least three within three years.

Also, not sure if it's noted in there, but often certain companies here will hold exclusive franchise rights over certain regions.

So, you may want o open up a ________ in China, Korea, or whatever, but there very well might be someone that has already got a lock on it.

What are some other decent taco joints in Seoul besides the one mentioned above? I've been to Dos Tacos but that's it. Where is the 3 Kings Taco Truck? Itaewon? And how much are their tacos?

Buy yourself a hot dog cart and sell tacos out of it. In Korea, you don't have to worry about licenses or code violations or any of that stuff, just wheel it up and down Itaweon and sell your wares. Very Happy

Shoot man, back in the old days when we could still post pictures (Thanks Danthechainsawman, you douchebag) someone would have photoshopped a hot dog cart with a sign that reads: Kennyftw's Taco Hell
