| GEPIK is a real mess right now. Teachers are being let go with very little notice and GEPIK is doing nothing about it. Letters and press releases? That's not action. Hate to say it but GEPIK is no place to be, right now. |

I've been out of the country for a year, so forgive me if this question is ignorant / has been covered to death for the past 12 months on dave's.
Does this apply only to Gyeonggi-do? Are other provinces (EPIK) affected as well? Am looking to get a job somewhere rural next Feb...just curious about your statement.
OP, hope you get the cash. It took me ages to get my first re-imbursement years ago mostly because they still did the pre-paid flight stuff then and the re-imbursements were not too common. Be persistent.  |

GEPIK's budget was slashed. There are schools that are cutting the foreign teacher program with little notice. Meanwhile, GEPIK sent out a memo. |

| IIRC, back when I was in Anseong, the VP had mentioned right after the 2011 New Year about the heavily slashed GEPIK funds. This is not a surprise. Well, what most of the people don't know is that the K-teachers will also lose more job benefits for next year. |

AFAIK, it's only GEPIK right now. This is mostly because Gyeongi province has always had a very low standard of English education compared to other provinces, so it's not an important subject and was the first to be considered for cuts.
once you've taught in Gyeongi, you'll realize that most kids here are all about math and that's pretty much the hagwon of choice too for them. they don't really study english as much unfortunately... |

Korean English teachers are too often just jealous of foreign teachers and don't understand the "big picture" of funding for English programs. |

this accusation gets thrown around a LOT in this forum, yet in my case I have never perceived not being wanted from my Korean coteachers. of course I don't know what they may say when I'm not around, or even when I am when speaking Korean to each other.. but you can sort of "tell", can't you? when you're not wanted? or someone's blatantly jealous?
mine have been supportive. From other ps teachers I've heard stories of bliss AND horror. |

| No, you can't really tell. They will support you but will only go so far and you can be a really good teacher, or at least give it your best and they still might not fight to keep you in their program because it's better to cut the NET than one of them. |

I get that some K teachers don't support their foreigner. However, have you considered that it may be because you suck as a teacher?
Have you considered that they may think you are not worth the budget?
I am fully supported by my colleagues because I know what I am doing and I am good at my job.
It could be that better quality teachers like myself receive support. |

The GEPIK/EPIK program funds NETS not native Koreans. It's not either/or scenario.
If they like you they will keep you.
If they don't they won't.
It really is that simple. |

Many Korean teachers view money spent on foreign teachers as money they want spent on Korean teachers. Big picture. |
