time to put on the big boy pants and face reality. don't shoot the messenger, especially when you don't even understand the message.

normally i don't like to add insult to injury but i'd love to see what some of the junior linguists on here think about your original post.

maybe after they also tell you that you were wrong you will finally get it.

i don't even see why you got your panties in a twist in the first place. i was merely trying to help and i wasn't even snarky then.

Ok, enough of the bickering.

Please stay on topic and take your squabble to PMs if you feel you need to further discuss this.

FDNY,

We may accept that as part of the natural wear on an object, whereas Koreans seem to prefer the wear on the plastic cover first...and I suppose, once the cover is scratched and torn enough, they simply peel it off, and voila`, they have a new-looking object again, far longer after purchase than Westerners can manage....

The product lifecycle in Korea is much shorter than that in the West. In the West, it's less common to trade in a car because it is 'old' even if it still runs great. Here, something being 'old' is enough reason to replace it.
You can find perfectly good furniture dispossessed on the street. Koreans are early adopters, meaning they prefer to replace electronics before they become obsolete.
What I'm getting at is Koreans leave plastic on things not because they want to prolong the life of it, but because everyone else does it. Simple as that.

Even though I think the OP is trolling, I didn't see this in any other posts, and it's the title of the post, so...

If you don't scan your card when you exit the bus, you'll be charged the maximum rate for the bus ride (to the end of the route). When you enter the bus or subway the next time, look to see if you're charged 900 Won. If it's anything higher, you didn't scan your card when you left the bus or subway the previous time.

Wow. I dont know why so many [Mod Edit] come here...like the OP for example. Ask stupid questions, then someone gives an answer, and he has gotta use the DEAD WRONG in bold caps. I can hardly stand checking this website, every time I do, I want to kick some idiot in the face.

I do not disagree -- the idea of most of the Koreans I have known keeping a cell phone or other device long enough for the plastic cover to get scratched is pretty far-fetched...but that doesn't change the fact that if one waited until the plastic sheet got marred, then peeled it back, the surface beneath it would probably still look like new....

The London sewers were built as a result of the Miasma Theory of Disease -- and the sewers did indeed reduce the incidence of disease, though not for the reasons believed by most folks at the time....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miasma_theory

Even if Koreans keep the plastic on for a less rational reason than was proposed, the plastic being left on does have the reasonable effect of protecting the surface longer.

To clarify a bit -

The fare you see posted is the base fare. If you ride the bus longer than 10 km, then you are charged an additional 100 won per 5 km. As buster points out, if you DON'T scan out, then you are charged the fare for the whole route.

The only reason I even clicked on this thread was to give an honest response like buster brown did. Then I saw the drivel in the first post and gave up.

Why does FDNY post a series of questions and then proceed to answer them himself?

Oh, he is a blatant troll. That's why.

Mods, please clean up this garbage.
