You are incorrect.

I just talked to the two guys at the information desk. They beg to differ. They told me that I needed to push the button on the door to the right of the turnstiles in order to switch over. When I asked them about how to do it without going through, they told me that it wasn't possible.

Seriously, if there is a way then it's really hard to find and few seem to know about it. I've had this exact problem at Sadang station about five times (every time I've taken the subway to Kangnam) and I rarely have problems on the trains/buses/anything.

I don't know what else to say... and it's hardly "breaking the law" as CentralCali said as I've already paid/am paying.

http://www.seoulmetro.co.kr/eng/index.jsp

Click on "Cyber Station" on the left (new window will open)
Click on "Sadang Station"
Click on "Station Guide Map"

That interactive station map should show you how to transfer from one line to another.

The stairs you need to take are at the front end of the platform. It's honestly one of the easiest transfers to make...

It's not hard to find if you follow the signs. The people at the information desk were (somewhat) correct: if you go up the wrong stairs, you have to either backtrack to the platform and go up the correct stairs or push the button and essentially do what you've been doing. I take it you've always just gone up the first stairs you've seen rather than bothering to look at the signs.

no, centralcali was calling you a tool for complaining about getting caught breaking the law. your english really is "no" isn't it?

and yes, it is breaking the law because you failed sign reading 101 and cannot find the transfer. toll gates were not meant nor designed to be hopped over, and if you find yourself doing that then you are most likely breaking the law and probably should not be using public transportation.

buy a bike.

Adding to sojusucks' post, here's the map of Sadang.

Turnstiles on main level, none between green and light blue lines below.

Wow, I cannot believe you couldn't find it...

Anyways, when you get off the train, just wave down a Korean and say the name of the station you wish to go to with "yuk otok kae gayo?" So if you want to go to Gangnam, just say "Gangnam yuk otok kae gayo?" and eventually someone will help you out.

Also, it's best to just follow where the crowd is going.

They'll point you in the right direction, I'm sure.

Tell us how it goes. Wink

You can also just press the little help door button and they'll open it on both sides.

I'm riding the blue line train right now, and am about to make the same transfer (to the green line). I'll get to the bottom of this Smile

Well, it was pretty easy. Just got of the light blue train at Sadang, followed the signs to the end of the platform, to the green line train. Waiting in line now to get on. No turnstile.

I'm heading toward Jamsil. Was the OP heading the other way? Because the transfer area for the green train toward Hongdae is a different location.
