But I don't know why the OP doesn't work (or if they are already in one) in a Hagwon as most don't start until 2pm or later. So, my understanding is that you would have ample time in the morning to study etc.

I do work in a hagwon. I teach from 3-10 but prep from 1-3. It's also quite exhausting as the hagwon I work for puts a ridiculous amount of pressure on their teachers (the pay and housing is good though). I also don't think this hagwon would like me to do an MA while I worked there as they know the job isn't something one can do while doing anything else. It's draining.

Last year, we had people with MAs and Ph.D.s in hand, who had been working at public schools, lookign for a uni position. Did they really have those degrees? Well, at least, they claimed they did.

In the U.S., only 1.5% of the population has a PhD. That's one person in 67. That is rare! Which is why I don't understand why they would be working for such little money as a teaching assistant in a South Korean public school. Also, in the U.S., one thirteenth of the adult population has a masters degree. Less than one in four males have completed a BA, and less than one in three women have.

We had a couple of hundred applications. 99% either had an MA in hand or were in the process of working on one.

A couple hundred applicants for how many position openings? Please tell me more than one! @.@ Many? @_@
