7:30 Wake up and have breakfast
8:00 Go to the gym
9:30 Get back from the gym, study Korean for a couple of hours
11:30 Head to Uni, have lunch/do a bit of prep for tomorrow's classes before heading into class
1pm Start classes(each class is two hours with a 10 minute break every hour)
4:50pm Finish classes and head home
6pm Cook dinner for the wife and I
7pm Run/Watch TV/Study Korean/Practice Guitar/Internet/Other random stuff
11pm Go to bed

I know this isn't especially helpful for the OP but I like the thread idea and thought I'd throw in my day for comparison. It was last Wednesday but could be almost any day...

7am wake up, get first cup of coffee etc. Start breakfast for my son.

7:15 wake up said son and get him fed and ready for school.

8:15 walk son to school.

8:40 get back home and catch up on news / social networks.

10:00 shower and get ready for work.

10:50 walk to work.

11:00 arrive at work, clean the academy.

11:30 prep for hour admin for thirty minutes.

1pm~10pm nine one hour classes no breaks.

10pm admin / prep for next day.

10:45 lock the doors and leave work for home.

11:00 arrive home, surf the web, watch some T.V. and drink some wine.

1am bed

Wash, Rinse, Repeat six days a week...

Now, don't you want to own a hagwon?

my day:

8;30- awake

9:00 - 1000 - work out, jog

1000- 1100- shower, prep lunch cook/eat breakfast with girlfriend.

1100-1230- relax or run errands

1230-100- arrive at school early. we are there in case the boss wants to have a meeting with us (this has happened maybe twice all year and he really could have just called us so this is a giant waste of time.)

100-200 Kinder class, usually 30 mins of book work, flash cards followed by 30 mins of story time or games: usually kids kicking me, pulling my hair etc

200- 300 1 hour break. not enough time to go home. waste of my time, I usually sleep in my chair.

300-830 class after class of spoiled brats who ignore me, cough on me, talk crap about me in front of my face, yell, fight each other, make a mess, etc. Out of my 10 classes I'd say I have one that is actually fun and productive, three that are bearable and the rest are hell.

830- bus home

900 cook eat dinner

1200 sleep.

I'm actually really surprised at the amount of people who happily accept desk warming as a fact of life. IMO it's BS.

1245 1259- show up to work, turn on the computer, run around with the kids, shoot them with my toy nerf gun from my desk

1 - 545 6 classes, 5 minute breaks

546-600 clean up the class, turn off the computer, go home and sleep with my girlfriend

I work in a hagwan. I will post a regular Tuesday for you, because my wednesday's are not a 'normal' day.

Alarm goes off at 8am, snooze it every 10 minutes till 8.50am.

Shower at 9am

9.50am jump in a taxi to embark on a 30 minute taxi ride downtown

10.30am start Korean class

12.20pm finish Korean class

12.30 bus home (about 30 minutes)

start work at 1.30pm

1.30 - 3.50pm prep time/office hours (unpaid)

teach kindergarden 3.50 - 4.40 pm
teach middle school from 5 - 9.50pm

9.50 - 10.30pm office hours (unpaid)

Either grab some food and go home or hit the gym till midnight.

12.15 home stick some TV on or PS3

3.00 am sleep

i do this every Tuesday and Friday. On Monday and Thursday expect the same except waking up at like 11.30am and no Korean class. Wednesday I dont get into work till 2.30pm

Yikes, Gorf. That sounds rough. 2-minute breaks? I often keep the kids over, because we're finishing an activity, or they want to chat.

That hour of prep also involves my checking diaries and doing my monthly evaluations. I have to say, I love my job. I have my vacation booked and confirmed for January already! I got it through networking. It's really the best way, be it hagwan or uni. Best of luck!

I work at a one-off hagwon. I just made a post venting about it most of you have seen. Tonight we had a "workshop" where I presented a full 55 minute class to my coworkers and owners. All of my coworkers agreed I did a good job and that my educating was sound but my owners seem to think that everything is my fault at their hagwon. This hagwon works me hard and has very little structure to keep the wheels from flying off at any time. They have been losing students consistently since long before I arrived and their stress is showing. Both of my NET coworkers have resigned at least once before and only stayed once their contracts were altered. I secretly hope they fire me or close the school so I can get a better job.

Typical Wednesday:

9:45 - wake up
10:15 - 11:00ish - work out/bike ride somewhere
11:15 - 12:30 brunch/shower/get dressed

1PM - Arrive (minimal prep, usually talk to the Korean teachers about whatever... I'm the only foreigner teacher).

1:40 - 2:30 - Class
2:30 - 3:30 - Break
3:35 - 4:30 - Class
4:35 - 5:30 - Class
5:30 - 6:30 - Break (usually eat dinner somewhere outside)
6:35 - 7:30 - Class (last class)

7:30PM - 12AM - Varies...watch a movie, meet friends, etc.

1:30AM - sleep

that's nuts.. it seems kind of unfair, how do you get such good hours? or is it impossible for a newbie to get hours like this?...

I start next month, hours are 10-7:30 mwf 10-6 TT, decent? or no go? (they seemed like normal decent hours from what I had been looking at, for my experience range and qualifications)


just curious... not like your answers will change much.. lol

Network as much as you can your first year. You should be able to find something with better hours by your second or third year.
