I always found it ironic that the champions of the MLB, NBA and NFL are referred to as "world champs". It's not like they play teams outside the continent.

It's not like teams outside the continent can match the level of talent they bring to the table. They each feature the world's best in their respective sports. It would be an absurd claim for MLS to make, but for the above three sports it's definitely not.

I think it would interesting for an mlb champion to play against teams from Korea and Japan, both have strong domestic leagues and Japan has won the last 2 wbc titles, america hasn't won one yet.

Interesting, maybe, but apples and oranges. It's just not going to happen, and there are a lot of factors with the WBC. Most players don't have a reason to extend that much effort, outside of their feelings of national pride (because it ain't the money), right before the grueling real season. There's a reason Hee-Seop Choi's four year BA was .240 in the MLB, before batting .337 in the KBO in 2007.

Laughing Laughing

1) The best players on those domestic teams all play in the States (or will soon, in the case of Darvish).

2) Korea and Japan put effort into the WBC and send their best players, American players don't care, and thus don't attend.

Their athletes can, if they're good enough to make it to the MLB.

So the 'world series' consists only of MLB teams?

unless it's the Little League World Series (played in Williamsport, PA every year ) , THEN it's truly international.

OP, firstrowsports.tv has live sports streaming

The different nationalities that play in the MLB make it a "World Series" The MLB is not made up of only Americans.

Say what you want about the WBC but these teams in Korea and Japan can't compete with a MLB team. Imagine SK playing the Yankees. They might win a game but competing in a 162 game MLB season traveling all over the US is a different thing than playing in Korea. Plus MLB contracts restrict some of the big name guys from playing for their countries.

Korean sports leagues have foreigner limits. The basketball league here only allows 2 foreigner players per team, gotta be 4 years removed from NBA play, and can't be over 6'8.

I think baseball has a limit also.

I'm pretty sure it's two players per team, and the guys who end up in Korea have fallen pretty far.

This might even be generous, at this point.

Matsui hit 50 homeruns in Japan but only 30 in the US. The US throws elite money at elite athletes, but competition is fierce.

Check out this site:
forum.wiziwig.eu

It's got links to streams of every sport. For MLB you have to download streamtorrent. The quality isn't HD though....

I guess the "World Series" is an unfortunate name for the event. But, who cares, really? Wherever good players come from, they can play in the MLB. According to that list I linked on page one it sure looks like an awful lot of players come from outside the USA.

it's not that unfortunate of a name.

They are the best players in the 'world'.
And, they come from all over the 'world'.
As do players in the NFL, RWC, NBA and FIFA.

You do understand that most 'world' sporting events involve more than one country, right?
Few countries play baseball, no-one plays American football. So why call it a 'world series?' The FIFA 'world' cup you used as an example consists of a lot of countries playing against each other.

Hey! let's have the world kerplunking event in Australia! Sydney can play Melbourne, Canberra can play Adelaide...and overseas players can play for one of those teams! Rolling Eyes
