just bought the game and i'm vry frustrated, i wish I had seen this thread before buying. My only hope now is to make a Korean psn account with a friends id.
The problem is it seems that while you can sign in existing accounts, you cannot create new accounts anymore. I have tried on the Hong Kong website and got the same 'down for maintenance" message.
Anybody else going through a similar experience? |

The only other solution is to go through a VPN based in hong kong to set up an account, or a proxy. I haven't been online yet. I just bought uncharted 3 Havent played yet. I don't even know if my other country accounts work anymore. I haven't been on since the online beta for uncharted 3 in the summer.
I suppose you could login into a friend's account on your ps3 and download the content. Then you don't have to borrow their Id #. |

Actually, the region coding for DLC is not for Korea--it's Asia, excluding Japan. All my Asian games (ie. Hong kong etc.) work with downloaded content from the Korean store, so it should work the other way as well. You could open a HK account and buy a psn card from PlayAsia for the HK store and get your DLC from there for your Korean games.
Have fun!
Oh! Is uncharted 3 in Korean? And if there are subs, can they be turned off? What about the menus? |
Actually, I have a Hong Kong based PSN account. It DOES NOT work for Korean PSN codes.
It works for generic "Asian" region games... of which I have two... one bought off eBay, and one bought from a store just outside Osan AFB. Worked fine for the codes for those two (which were online access codes, so jailbreaking would be counterproductive) but not for the others.
Plus, this seems unlikely to ease off anytime soon. In compliance with a new South Korean law, accounts registered to minors will forcibly be disconnected from PSN between midnight and 6 AM (though one would presume single player games would be unaffected). So they'll want to make sure to make it hard for minors to register as adults...
Still wish they'd take my ARN though.

Not Sure what you mean by PSN codes. Codes on the psn cards? Of course not That's not what I was speaking of anyway. It was for DLC. All DLC for games is coded for Asia. All my games have been purchased from playasia from HK labeled for Asia. I've never purchased DLC from the HK store, only the Korean store via my girl's account with her card and never had an issue with skins, maps or expansion packs thus far.
WTF? It's the parents' job to watch their kids. Is Microsoft doing the same? Nintendo as well? |

I buy a lot of games here in Korea. Some of them come with codes on cards for DLC. These DLC codes for Korean region games DO NOT WORK on accounts outside Korea (like, say, a Hong Kong account). What you are describing is the reverse... an "Asian Region" code working on a Korean account, which doesn't surprise me.
But the specific Korean codes will only work on a Korean account, and those are hard to get unless you have a spouse or something. That's the whole problem. |

I see! For codes I see that not working, but I bet purchased DLC will work. DLC from north america doesn't work with Korean games, nor does Japanese. However Asia is a region for the actual content, which includes Korea, not codes. I think all codes are country specific.
PSN must accept ARC numbers. I'd send a letter to headquarters somewhere! That's ridiculous. I just naturally used my girl's because we share the ps3. Never tried to sign up for korea, just other regions. |

So you have a Korean psn account Boffo? When did you get it?
I have been trying to get my girlfriend to get one but every time we go to the PSN Korean signup page it says it is down for maintenance. It has been like that ever since the hacking thing I think. |

Unfortunately, I do not. Basically, unless you marry a Korean, it's rather hard to convince someone to "loan" you the equivalent of an SSN. I know it's a legit purpose (on my end at least) but on the other end, I'd be very suspicious too.
What I do have is a Hong Kong account, as I have two games for the generic Asian region.
And this is becoming more and more of a pain with more and more companies doing the "online pass" nonsense. |

I found the following site for submitting questions to PlayStation Korea.
http://kr-playstation.custhelp.com/app/ask
Maybe multiple people requesting a Korean PSN account will make a difference. |

So I posted here about my trouble, here's how it played out. Short version: no dice.
I called playstation a few times. My Korean is basic so I needed a friend to help me out. The simple fact is that even the customer support don't all know. One rep told me to check of the foreigner box and it would work. . . she must have been thinking of someone else's site. . .
I did eventually get connected to a fellow who spoke English and was incredibly helpful; he didn't have an extension so he gave me his cell phone number!!! Anyway, he took a day to look into it and called me back but to no avail. He confirmed, the only way to make it work would be to use someone else's ID, or as I like to call it, fraud.
This, he said should only be an issue for EA games and those that use regional passcodes to access online content.
I tried to buy one for Canada but, according to Playstaion (N. America) The PSN dosen't like my Korean IP address trying to use my Canadian creditcard so again, no dice.
I returned the console and ate the $60 for the game. I'll build a computer instead.
PSN, why's it gotta be like that?
Moral of my story: Korean release Battlefield 3 for playstation: FOR SALE $45 obo. |

One of the people I talked to told me basically the same thing. "Just use your Korean friend's ID number." Don't they realize they are encouraging people to break the law? (The fine for using another person's ID number is 10 million won). I wonder if/which government agency we could report them to? I'd be happy to burn those bastards anyway that I could.
The whole thing is ridiculous. If they're telling us to use a Korean friend's ID number then they obviously don't think it's very important to keep us off of the service. They don't mind if we use it, just don't want our dirty foreign ID numbers infecting their system. So what is the deal then? They're just to lazy to add the code for foreign ID numbers? There's certainly no law stopping them from accepting us. |

I got basically the same broken English as above.
Reporting them might be a worthwhile option, since it really hurts people who buy games here not to be able to use the DLC codes (And more than just EA uses Online Pass these days).
Unfortunately, as I've seen with other issues, the way Sony builds their company, the people you can contact for Tech Support have no actual POWER in the system. The people with the power are apparently insulated from us filthy customers.
It's good that many people are asking them about this though. Too bad we can't get the media involved...
Edit: Just tried my WWE 12 online access code... and yep, that's region locked, despite what the guy someone talked to said. |

Hello xmotleyx/other forum members,
So you have tried using korean PSN account downloading DLC on your Asian version Discs?
Then have you tried using an asian psn account to download DLC on a Korean Disc?
I want to try downloading Chaos unleashed for Space marine but my disc is a Korean disc(BLKS-xxxxx 5 digits) instead of the usual Asian disc(BLAS-xxxxx 5 digits).
Thank you for reading! |

Korean account: We haven't tried using this because we can't get one. We can only get one using a native's SSN, and that's a request that's always going to cause the native to wonder about your intentions.
Asian account: I have a Hong Kong account as well as my main US account. It unfortunately does not recognize the Korean codes. |
