Well...as far as first uni jobs go, it could be worse. You could still be working at a hagwon or public school. It's not a dorm, you'll have your own one-room in a big apartment complex. But, you will have students next to, above you, below you. And they will keep you awake at all hours of the night.

I don't quite follow. What does working at a hagwon have to do with uni jobs?

So it's a dorm with one-room apartments. Are they undergraduates? Are there any unusual rules for tenants?

SCH rents apartments for teachers in a near by apartment complex. A lot of students live in the same complex.

It is NOT a dorm!! It's your own apartment and you can come and go as you please.

The plus side of working at SCH is that there are a lot of foreigners there and you'll be able to find a lot of friends.

The down side is that the uni is a bit dodgy for long term employment. Plan on staying 1 to 3 years and keep your options open.

At SCH, you're really close to the subway which takes you directly to Seoul/KTX so you can escape if you need to.

There are also a lot of folks who do things like climbing, clubbing, gaming...you name it, you can find someone who's interested.

I worked there for 5+ years and if the admin hadn't changed, I'd still be there!

Hey there -

I have just been offered a position at Soonchunhyang and was wondering if anything has changed - either for better or worse.

I'm not sure if I this is a correct assumption but it seems like ajumma and jbl are saying that teachers are no longer in Kyunghee Apartments but in some other place. Can anyone confirm if the current free housing is free of cockroaches and air conditioned?

If the current free housing still sucks, where do people generally live? I've heard a number of people live in Cheonan. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to live in Cheonan or any other tips about housing?

From my interview, it seems like it's still status quo in terms of the pension and the summer/winter camps. However, the woman that interviewed me seemed nice. Could this be the same lady other people were not so fond of or is it possible she is a new staff member?

Anything else you guys know about the current situation would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers in advance!

Hi - can anyone offer any updates on the the employment situation at Soonchunhyang? I've just been offered a job there for the upcoming academic year.

Not too concerned about the "micro-managing crazy lady" mentioned earlier in the post; this isn't my first ESL job and I've dealt with that before. Nor do I particularly mind the unpaid summer/winter camps - this is my first uni job in Korea. I don't mind paying my dues.

I'd mainly like to know about the housing situation (dorms? apartments? cardboard box outside the classroom?) and if that's improved or not, and the foreign community in Asan - how many expats are around?

Any feedback appreciated! Thanks!
