I think what TUM is saying is that an employer can't just take out 600,000W from your salary one month because he decides to take a deposit from you, while your contract never mentioned it or the clause was removed prior to you both signing it. So you've already moved past the choosing to employ you or not stage. |

| I find the deposit semi-reasonable, but frustrating at the same time. I understand this will help the new person out when I leave in case bills come that belong to me (this happened like the first week I got here I got a water bill and was like wtf) but I would also appreciate it if they would actually use it to fix the apartment when the previous tenant actually broke something.....like my toilet seat so I don't have to go out and buy one. Seriously, not cool to leave someone hanging like that after I complained several times. |

Dude, I pay 5 Million as a deposit on my housing. Granted, its under my name.
I would gladly take my 5 million back, and pay just 600,000w as a deposit anytime, anywhere. |

I paid 5 million, but I know I will get it back. With a shady hagwon they might keep it just for a parent complaining or losing a few kids at the school. You really have to put a lot of trust in a hagwon to do it. |

A year ago I signed a contract that had no deposit.
A couple days after I arrived I was asked to sign the official contract that included a 600,000 won deposit.
The place I'm at now has a 900,000 won deposit.
I think these deposits are becoming standard. |
