I think some of you are missing the point. Some may take comfort in the fact that dogs used for meet are being bred like cattle. But they are not. Most of these dogs are picked up off the street and treated like crap in the worst living conditions for a dog. They aren't fed properly and locked up in tiny cages. If they were really treated like cattle then I would have no issue with it. I actually used to eat dog until I found this out. Eating dog in itself isn't wrong. Treating them like crap is. That goes for any other animal.

Now, I'm no apologist. If you look at my posting history you would probably place me at the other end of the spectrum. However, I think that these dogs are being treated like cattle. Cattle are often put in such tiny pens that they can't even move, and they live in deplorable conditions. Dogs bred (or intended) for human consumption shouldn't live in such horrible conditions, but neither should cows, chickens, pigs, etc. Basically, most livestock is raised in deplorable conditions. It's the rule of business, "maximize profits". If you (not fermentation, but anybody) are upset about how dogs are treated, then you should be just as outraged over the horrible treatment of other livestock.

Actually I am. Which is why I now try to buy organic. Any animal we consume should be treated with respect for the life it gives us. We should be raising these animals instead of pumping them out like factory produced products. Generally, from what I've seen. These dogs are actually treated worse than most livestock.

Well at least you are coherent in how you deal with this issue. As for worse/better, I suggest (not really because it will sicken you to a great degree) that you visit a poultry operation and check out how chickens live their short miserable lives or a cattle operation and see how little space the animals have and how they are pumped full of food. Dogs raised for consumption get treated in generally the same way as pigs, cows and chickens because thats how operators maximise profits. You want to eat organically raised meat then cool, it will cost more but the animals get treated better.

Do you actually have a link for this statistic of "most" or are you just making it up?

Now Patrick...when you say 'qualifiers'...do you really mean unqualified quantifiers??? Very Happy
Please be more or less specific and try not to say what you mean.
Or... at least don't be mean when you say what you don't really mean to say..especially when you don't mean to be mean but mean what you say when you don't mean to be mean.
...and don't forget...
Happy New Year! Wink

Korea really needs to make this illegal! it's a stupid tradition which serves no purpose anymore. Koreans ate dogs because they were poor! they ate anything. now Korea is rich they don't need to degrade themselves by saying it's our culture.

you don't see England chopping off peoples heads in the square on Sundays anymore do you?
certain practices belong in the dark ages.eating dogs is one of them!

I don't understand how eating dog doesn't serve a purpose. It's just food.

It's illegal or at least extremely taboo in most countries. That's why Koreans have always made the ridiculous "only some kind of dogs" (and I've never found a Korean able to name the breed) argument. Dog consumption tarnishes that squeaky clean international image they've been trying to create.

But I guess it's the rest of the world that's wrong, and the wise Koreans (and a few Chinese and Vietnamese) are right in recognizing that dog is just the other red meat.

Human flesh is just food, too. Don't worry, we only eat a certain race. Which race, you ask? Um sorry I'm English no, but you can rest assured it's not a popular one.
