We don't call automobiles and trains westernized transportation just because they required an industrial revolution. I normally don't get too defensive about this sort of thing, but it seems sort of lazy to call all the bad food "westernized" especially when Japan was and continues to be one of the major leaders in food/food science. |
I don't see why is it even an issue, it's just a name, like westerns tend to call all eastern Asians Chinese while they are not even from China. |
So....idiocy justifies idiocy? |

| I would say that some of the issues that are involved with the rising cancer rates include air pollution, high toxicity, processed foods that are mostly simple carbs and crap, cigarettes, alcohol, crap makeup and facial creams that are very toxic, lack of sunshine (vitamin D3), too much sodium, too much stress, little vacation time, unresolved conflicts, a chronic lack of sleep, lack of exercise, among other things... |
That's very possible Harpeau, but it comes to colon cancer, its almost certain that westernized diet plays the most important role. Also the colon cancer incidence tells pretty much the story: the highest is in Australia/NZ, followed by Western Europe, Southern Europe, Northern Europe, Northern America, Cnetral and Eastern Europe and then Eastern Asia and the rest of the world. (it's fair enough to blame the westernized food).
Eastern Asia has the highest stomach cancer and liver cancer rate and the second highest esophageal cancer rate in the world.
Its not Asian food is healthy, but still, Kimchi is not hamburger, they grow things in different parts of our body. Since Asians started to change their diet habit, the colon cancer rate has been growing significantly. |
If western diet is to blame I think America would be number one. You can't hardly find a family in the Southern US that doesn't constantly eat processed food for every meal. In my opinion. this is why Southern States have the highest rates of obesity.
Please post a link for your info Panda. I found this and it's by country not continent.

I think it is interesting to note that South Korea has the highest alcohol consumption by far in Asia, and two of the other top colorectal cancer countries (men) mentioned in warmachineinkorea's link are in the top 5 highest consumers of alcohol per capita in the world (Czech Republic and Hungary). I think it is to do with meat eating and booze, personally.

| We're all going to die anyways so who cares if they blame colon cancer on westernized food. Plus I heard they found a protein that surpresses cancer so in 20 years no one will care anyway. Also, UofWestern Ontario is testing an Aids vaccine that was approved for human trials so pretty soon we'll be able to bang each others brains out withou fear of death! Assa!! Goooooooo Science!!! I've found the fountain of youth so doesn't really benefit me but it sure bodes well for you chuuuumm...... Ps |

This is by continent or area not country. This makes a big difference in the discussion since we the article was specifically talking about Korea's rate of cancer rising. |

Too bad when it comes to culture, the same does not go.
They call it political correct and such things. |

You were quite right to caution us on a Wiki link.

A slightly more updated link...

I'd like to know too. Canada is higher on the list than America. |

Well, I just didn't believed your data .
I checked GLOBOCAN database and couldn't find the tables they list on the page you posted, instead, this is the updated one I can found
By countries:
By continents:
But I just don't trust a database that made South Korea Top 10 a couple of years ago and then Japan this year. It's not a film award after all.
All in all, no statistics can be 100%, there are always errors, but at least most tables and figures presented here gave everybody a primary impression that:
Australia/New Zealand and the whole Europe have the highest colon cancer incidences in the world.

So you are picking and choosing what you trust based on two countries position in a colon cancer study? |

I don't believe a statistics that says Korea is No4 this year , which disappears next year and Japan becomes No3 instead.
Given enough information resources, readers will make their own judgement. |

Bad argument.
A) How is it bad English?
B)The information is from my own experience and my opinion. It can't really be bad. |
