I used AskNow my first time. They were really helpful and have a good deal of social events which are fun your first time around.
But my advice is to use several recruiters and see who gets you the best gig. Don't EVER feel that you owe ANYTHING to a recruiter. It is their job and they are making money off of you. Its a customer service gig. Its like shopping around for a car. If they are nice folks but you get a better deal elsewhere you should by all means take the better deal. |

| I used several recruiters at the same time, and made sure that none of them knew about the other. That works great if you're not going into public schools. The ones that didn't work out failed to try. They spent time telling me how busy they were, so obviously didn't need my business. The one that came through for me was ASK-NOW. They've been around a while, and Brant in the Seoul office has been great. |
I have heard mixed answers on using several recuriters. Some say use as many as possible while other say do not. How would they know about each other? Do you mean just don't tell them you are using other recuriters or is there a way they find out themselves? I am new to this and have spent countless hours trying to educate myself. |
The recruiters have no way of finding out about each other. I never tell them about each other either, since they might just give up on me if they know that I am looking elsewhere at the same time as I am using them. As for the multiple recruiters, it is absolutely OK and recommended as long as you don't use multiple recruiters for public school programs. I knew that I was going to miss the deadline for public schools, so I made sure the recruiters knew that I was interested in Hagwon only. If you use more than one recruiter for public schools, the public school system will reject your application. Hope this helps! |

| For my first job, I used Alistair at Korea Horizons. It was an okay public school job, but Alistair was amazing. He helped me with my renewal for a second year, even though he had nothing to gain (but praise.) |
Second this. My EPIK plans fell through with another recruiter & Alistair at Korea Horizons has been great.
He did a mock Skype interview w/ me last night an hour before my actual interview & made some helpful suggestions.
I got the job offer today & I'll be starting a non-EPIK PS job w/ pretty much identical benefits on March 1st. |

I just sent her an e-mail and got an automated response saying that she does not work there anymore.
Anyone know of recruiters for universities?
Thanks |

| I used Say Kimchi and found them to be awesome and super helpful. They always respond to my questions right away - even now that I'm over here and they no longer have much incentive to do so. Two of my friends have also used them; that's how I found out about Say Kimchi. Two thumbs up, y'all. |

| Korvia update the illegal blacklist which is both immoral and unethical. Give Korvia a wide berth if you are looking for a job within Korea and you have a pissed off co-teacher or boss because you will be on that blacklist whatever your side of the story is. |

I would advise avoiding Footprints and EICO HR.
Footprints was my sole recruiter for a year and it was a mess. Only a couple of interviews, one where the employer just wanted to rant at me about how much better Korean education is than American, and another where the contract I was offered did not have the same terms as what the recruiter cited. Then they told me I was hired for a job in Saudi Arabia and it fell through because they didn't check the visa requirements first.
EICO hooked me up with a school that hired me but I had issues with my Criminal Background Check and rather than be there to advise me, they went on a multi-week vacation. Also, they are incapable of admitting fault in anything.
In your best interests to avoid these two. |

| The best recruiters are western based ones. Stay away from the Korean ones. Many will rip you off to make a buck. Not saying all, but how can you know? Go with ones who also have a proven track record of placing folks with these same schools before. |

For my EPIK application I used Educon, which is based in the US, in Illinois. Yeah, you can apply to EPIK on your own and probably get assigned a position quicker, but the people at Educon were really helpful with the application process. I think I would have made some dumb mistakes on the application or in my interview if I didn't have them looking over my docs and giving me advice. Since they're in the US it was nice to be able to call them if I needed anything, without having to bother with international rates or Skype or whatever. Also they were always there to pick up the call, and were really responsive to emails or calls, even at night and on weekends.
You definitely should be careful with any recruiter but I found the folks at Educon to be responsive, helpful and honest with me. |
