I agree people shouldn't pay any mind to Mayweather.

However, he is not alone in his sentiments about Lin.

Still, so long as Stoudamire and Melo realign themselves into more of a team concept, the Knicks and Lin should continue to do well, in which case everyone will come out smellin' like roses

Unbeaten boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has posted a swipe at the New York Knicks' point guard sensation Jeremy Lin on Twitter.

Quote:
Mayweather posted Monday: "Jeremy Lin is a good player but all the hype is because he's Asian. Black players do what he does every night and don't get the same praise."

Anyone agree? disagree?

I'd be fine with that comment if it wasn't for the fact that "blacks" are often held in esteem in the US when they do "what Whites do" - meaning, there seems to be a low bar in certain professions for certain ethnicities, and ppl are shocked and amazed when somebody actually steps over it.

Mayweather is being an ass and has gone down in my book. I would also hesitate using the comments of a guy trying to stay relevant as the prevailing sentiment of Blacks either.

From what I can tell everyone is thrilled for Lin, all people.

Lin is a great story and remains an inspriation. Especially for those who people counted out.

Good luck to him.

Disagree. He's what? The 3rd or 4th player from Harvard? The first in who knows how long. That certainly is another reason. Had he played at a big basketball university (UNC, Duke, Kansas, UCLA, etc), this wouldn't be nearly as big a story. And had he been drafted in the first couple rounds, it also wouldn't have been as big a story...

Yes, part of the hype is due to his race, but certainly not all of it.

Good article of Lin, interview of his high school coach

Quote:
"I wasn't sitting there saying all these Division I coaches were knuckleheads," Diepenbrock says. "There were legitimate questions about Jeremy."

Diepenbrock starts to say something else, then stops. "I already got in trouble with Jeremy for saying this, so I probably shouldn't," he says. Then, a few seconds later, he says, "Oh, what the hell. I'll say it anyway and get in trouble twice: Jeremy was not a good practice player."

I just read an article saying that his merchandising/sponsorship can be worth as much as 14 million! Well, he won't go broke anytime soon. Again, so happy to hear.

PS: Again, Mayweather is an ass. I wouldn't put any stock in his comment nor would I attribute to the prevailing thought out there by Blacks. As far as everyone can tell ALL of NY are happy with Lin. NO PLAYER comes out of no where and scores 38 on Kobe. Even the Lebron James of the world have trouble doing that.

Yowza, guess Jeremy's a poster on Dave's and doesn't want us to forget about him anytime soon Surprised

Apparently since the ABA and NBA merged in about 1976, no one has scored more points in the first 5 games that they've started...not Shaq, Jordan, Kobe, Iverson,...

Also, apparently no one in the history of the game has both scored 20 points and won all of their first 5 starts.

It's almost like he should retire now before Melo returns and messes everything up...if he's able to sustain these type of heroics I may start believing in the tooth fairy again

No one has had more turnovers than him either in their first 5 starts....

And it will be interesting to see what happens when Melo returns. If if he screws things up, he'll be the most hated man in NY.

I started new thread because it's better to use his name now. Everyone in the US is buzzing, so I think anyone who clicked on any US news website would know his name by now.

Only had 10 points against the Kings but 13 assists. Still a double double.

ESPN ran the headline "Chink in the Armor" after Lin had nine turnovers in New York's loss to the New Orleans Hornets on Friday night.

Fox Sports writer Jason Whitlock said Some lucky lady in NYC is gonna feel a couple inches of pain tonight soon after Jeremy Lin scored 38 points to help the New York Knicks beat the Los Angeles Lakers.

After Lin dished out 13 assists to lead the Knicks to their seventh straight win, the MSG network aired an image of Lin's face over a broken fortune cookie with the words: "The Knicks Good Fortune."

I'm almost shocked that no one in big media has referred to Lin as a Chinaman yet.
