I also homebrew. If you plan on staying in Korea for at least a couple years, it's not a bad investment to get the equipment.

Great for home use but its not viable as a business. Korea's laws with regards to microbrew are draconian.

Where did he say anything about a business?

Usually the term "investment" refers to a business. I took the phrase "it's not a bad investment to get the equipment" as to meaning "Its worth your money to buy the proper equipment as it will offer good returns". And with proper beer making equipment, unless you are drinking beer constantly, its not economical unless you are planning to sell the beer or give it away for free to people you know.

Perhaps if they had said " it's not a bad idea to get the equipment." then I wouldn't have added the extra comment about micro beer business in Korea.

You've got some issues and are probably one of the social-retards who I choose not to hang out with in person. I'm no longer responding to or checking this otherwise interesting thread.

I am not sure how you gleened "free" from the 10Mag article. However maybe we should all live in hope. However, I can assure you, you be paying for ALL the beer you drink.

That being said, I am so down for this. I can drink A LOT of beer in three hours.

Harsh, who crapped in your cereal? I was simply telling people that "investing" in equipment is not a good idea if they plan on making money off of the endeavor.

I know a few people who invested a lot of money brewing beer and selling it successfully in Seoul. That is, until they were narc-ed out by bar owners who felt their under-the-table selling of beer was cutting into their business.

I'd rather be a "social-retard" than some crazy cat lady. http://images.wikia.com/simpsons/images/d/d1/Crazycatlady.jpg

You do realize that "good investment" can be used outside of a monetary regard, right?

jlb was saying that the equipment is productive for making delicious beer of your own at home, not for selling it. Homebrewing was trending in the thread at the time...

What was unclear about that? It was in a monetary regard; she said you can save money by making your own beer instead of buying it. I don't understand why there is so much confusion and argument about such a simple statement. I guess that's Dave's fer ya.

But anyway, that beer festival sounds pretty cool. Thanks for bringing it up. So is it just some local brewers giving away their beer at these bars? How professional are they? Are they serious brewers or just ordinary folks who have tried homebrewing once or twice? I'll check it out either way; free beer is free beer, and it can't be worse than Hite. Has anybody ever been to this thing before? How was it?
