I was in E-mart last weekend and there is a new brand of Hite as well!

It's called S-hite

It's like Cass Red, stronger than normal.

Logical, Strong hite - lets call it S-hite! Embarassed

Ask for it by name!

You're not serious. ???

Liquor Burger in Yeonsu Dong, Incheon have the pilsner and IPA. Each are selling for about 5,000 won. It was a pleasant change from the usual Korean beer - I preferred the pilsner personally, but the IPA was fine also.

I heard they can't sell it in bottles or cans yet, because they don't produce enough of it (Korean Law). If they increase their production, they will then be allowed to bottle it and sell it in supermarkets.

Wow...sure didn't take long before someone crapped on what is otherwise good news that a domestic company if finally expanding into new areas in regards to beer tastes

Good beer or not...availability of import or not..the fact that a Korean company is at least TRYING to produce something other than HITE/CASS/OB/Prime...etc is excellent news for those of us who enjoy beer.

Ok, but considering those brands, you can see why some might be skeptical.

Also think about the tendency here to copy a brand in terms of style while the quality of the actual product remains in doubt.

That said, more choice is better, and they can only improve on what they currently have.

This kind of thing can only end in two ways: either the company falls into oblivion, or otherwise succeeds into tapping a niche market (among Koreans) of variety in beer leading to competitors making efforts to do the same, and us the beer lovers benefit from what at a minimum will be more selection, and possibly a decent domestic brew.

Hard to say what will happen. Trends here hit light speed very quickly so a lot could change within a year even. Then suddenly we'll be hearing from the locals "Korean beer #1!"[/quote]

Out of curiosity, how is the name pronounced?

"SevenBrau"?

"ChilBrau"?

"IlgopBrau"?
