What if you took this all the words that say "KOREAN" and replace them with "AMERICAN" or "CANADIAN".. I'm wondering if the other facts would be pretty be about the same?

very true. my advice to any north american (more specifically canadian) university-age student contemplating university is that they should know what they're getting into. im so sick of listening to english, poli sci, linguistics, sociology majors whining that they attended university as a stepping stone to stable employment and a good salary and now they cant find any work. wake up! the world is not the same as it was when our parents were our age. a friend of mine back in canada is going for a master's of social work because he wants to do actual work with people in his field and not sit at a desk like he would if he only has a BSW. if you're going to study literature or linguistics because you love it and it opens your mind, awesome. if you're doing it so you can find a high-paying job thats exciting, you probably wont find that until you get your PhD and tenure, if thats your cup of tea.
i dont even really think that university offers that much in integrating you into the "real world" or into the social fabric of our society. i found university to be a very lonely place most of the time and your social experience at university is really what you make of it. many people that i know from university said that it was the most lonely and depressing time of their lives. |
