As long as it doesn't affect the rest of us negatively that is. Unfortunately we all get tarred with the same brush when one FT does something underhanded. It's happened time and again.
At some point you can't just do what makes you happier and to heck with the consequences for everyone else...it may well come back to make you unhappy in the long run.
On the other hand doing what is right does not tend to hurt one in the long run...even if it makes them unhappy in the short term.
So because some schools act poorly it gives us the right to treat any school the same? Really? |

I mentioned I wanted to teach older students. The organization that hired me read it as if I were quitting. Next thing I knew, they informed the principal and found a replacement teacher. Then they asked me to stay a third month as if I had quit.
I tried playing the nice route. I wanted to get them a replacement at the right time if needed, but they took it too seriously.
This isn't a moral issue, it's not like "Should you run over people on your way to work?"
The good schools are good because they treat teachers fairly. They do not lose out by hiring a second teacher. If this were a high paying job, the teacher wouldn't consider leaving. So, it apparently isn't a high paying job. How many gas attendants do you see giving notice?
I saw a different one every week back home. The pay scale would have to go up to consider us the "resident doctor" if you will. Until then, we are not licensed, we are not residents in the same way native Koreans are, and we definitely do not get the same treatment.
These jobs are for 3 months to a year. Just because you sign a contract for 1 year doesn't mean you need to stay the whole year. |

I only planned on working at my current PS for 8 months or so because I wanted to leave during prime hiring season in Japan. But I ended up having great coworkers and kids and couldn't dare bailing out on them. Now I'm finishing up in about 2 weeks. The year flew by.
Wait and see what it's like first. If it's just so so, then take the job, give them ample notice you're leaving, be honest and pay back the money you owe. You shouldn't pull a midnight run under any circumstances at a PS. |

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the the advice.
Several places want to hire me. For recruiters I have told I am short-term, they have found stuff (as I went to a good college with a CELTA).
Perhaps I should take short-term, as I wouldn't want Public School children to feel abandoned.
Yes, it looks like I will need to teach adults for a few months; but, that's decent. |

so you havent started working at the public school yet?
if that's the case, then I commend you for asking ahead of time
because the ramification of your decision does not only affect you, it affects quite a number of people
if possible, try not to break a contract and leave on a good term, things do find their way to bite you in your arse later |
