@ aplphonsus - Illegal abortions have been performed in China, Korea and Japan for millenia.
There are even neighbourhood shrines in Japan where the abortive mothers go to pray and perform rituals.
So whilst not 'legalised' it is a mainstream and accepted practice, just like the Yakuza / jyopo / triads - not legally sanctioned, but culturally accepted and tolerated.
Please don't get me started on China, if your knowledge of practices there, legally sanctioned or otherwise in regards to foetuses, is innocent - you do not want to go there. Stay innocent.
Your comments could just as easilly read 'When a country values male foetuses over female ones to the extent that......" |

haven't heard of this precisely, but I do know that Japanese women who have had miscarriages do pay respect to the dead child in the way you describe. It is supposed to (and has been documented that it does) aid in the women getting over the emotional loss of a child.
to repeat, whether purposely aborted children are also honored in this way, I don't know and would be interested if someone can confirm this or not. |
