| Actually it's better if you don't work at the same hogwon. One of you can ask for the apartment and the other can ask for a housing allowance. Split the housing allowance and you'll earn a bit more. |
Plus it would be near-impossible to vacation together if both of you are at the same hogwon, even if it's a large one. |
Damn. I never even thought of vacation. Thanks!
UPDATE: We did get an offer for a position in Seoul. 2:30 to 8:30, 2.3. Starts August 20th. However, the neighborhood doesn't seem all that happening.
Nos vemos... |
At the place I posted above(Moonkkang) You can get 2.5 plus 3 weeks vacation and you and your girlfriend can take vacation at the same time. I train with a guy that works there with his GF and they take the same time off.
And more than a few people that work there tell me they can take unpaid time off too. They have floaters that cover teachers that go on vacation. My sister in-law works for small hagwon near my wife and I. Her father has stage 4 cancer and she needed to go home for a visit. It took her a month of groveling and finding a sub for her hagwon to give her leave.
Don't count Daegu out. The foreign group here is pretty tight and it's 45 min to Busan and about 2 hrs to Seoul. |

Don't freak about the neighbourhood.
It's in Seoul.
I used to be like that and then took jobs in Bundang, Ilsan and realised it was no big difference, taxis are cheap, busses plentiful and riunning into the early hours and - every neighbourhood in all of the big cities are carbon copies of each other. It literally makes zero difference if you're 10 minutes or 50 minutes from itaewon or hongdae. Get a subway / bus / train, bring book. |

| I've given him an option for good pay, good hours, and a good place to work. I guess that myth of Seoul and Busan call to people. |

| I don't understand why you would want to waste your time in a hagwon if you are certified. International school teachers make 4 million a month and up and get 16 weeks of paid holiday a year. Even if your girlfriend isn't qualified, you should be looking into international school jobs and they she could do something like an afterschool job and work 1-5 for 2.6-2.9 a month. You are lowballing yourself big time. |

This isn't really true. All the certified teachers I know are getting paid a lot closer to 3 million than 2 million, while some are well above 3 million. They mean nothing if you contact Crappy Recruiter X, but that's because he won't be dealing with any schools that care about your qualifications. |

| ㅅㅅ I don't see the experience counting for hogwons. And for PS you have to have taught in the same province for two years before you get to that pay level, on first arrival you'll be at a hogwon salary. |

I know plenty of certified teachers who work at hagwons and are paid significantly more for their qualifications. It may be a Seoul thing though. |

So how do I find said recruiters? All the jobs I've seen posted are nowhere near the salaries you are talking about (unless I want to be at the school for 10 hours a day).
I'm not sure why some people think that just because we're certified teachers that means we'll automatically get a job at an international school.
Also, we don't want a job at an international school. It's too much work. I've already worked 50 plus hours a week here and I will have to do the same. I don't want to do it in Korea. |

A) I've looked at international schools and the only ones interested where not in Asia B) I really don't want to work 50 plus hours a week. I've done that here as a teacher and when I come back I'll have to do it again...for many years.

I appreciate it brother. You're the only one who actually posted a link. However, I lived in Busan from 2006-2007 and I was bored out of my skull. That's why I'm a bit reluctant to live in Daegu.
So, if anyone can put me in touch with a recruiter/school/manager that has jobs (that don't include 50 office hours or more) where my non-white girlfriend and I are going to make close to 3 million please let me know. I am more than happy to compensate you for your trouble. |

Had no idea Shanghai payed in KRW. We're talking about in Korea. This is the kinda stuff that people just spout off with out doing any real research. But again please show me a link about an international school in Shanghai that pays 4 million a month. |
