Well I feel you shouldn't get involved, but I thought yeah probably I would actually. I couldn't just let the kid go on screaming.
But I'd hate other people getting involved in my family's business, so I could see how the father might react badly, and the situation could get worse. |

There are times to get involved and then there's not. Adult fighting? I'd let them go at it. A parent and teen? I wouldn't get involved unless it was out right abuse. A toddler and anyone? I'm sticking my nose in as far as it will go. If it gets cut off so be it.
There are some people, and things, in this world that need sticking up for.
What's the old saying? "All that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing." |

That was my first thought when I read the original post.
I'm with you and what you did either way, OP. |

I hear you and totally think you did the right thing. I'd have done the same. In fact, I have done something similar.
In Japan, where a husband was beating up on his very pregnant wife next door to me where the tissue paper thin walls left nothing to the imagination. I found myself first knocking and then pounding on their door. It was eventually yanked open to reveal a very ugly scene. I was threatened and I threatened in return, with regard to getting the police involved.
Eventually, after a few further nocturnal visits on my part, the abuse (appeared) to stop.
The wife gave birth a month or two later and I'd see her out with the newborn and her toddler. She greeted me each time like her long lost best friend.
Anyway, aren't you the animal rescue guy? Caring for animals in need, small children in need, etc, indicates to me a very good person.
Props to you ... |

OP you acted rightly from what you told us of the situation. This whole deal seems off and as a parent of 2, locking a 2-3 year old out of an appartment is damn odd and stinks of wrong.
As for callign child services, as advised by someone else in the thread, that would be a bit much considering the OP had very little to go on as far as what is actually happening. The fact the kid was locked out DOES NOT mean it is an abusive home. In fact, unless the OP heard or withnessed a few more events then this could be a one-off thing where the parent lost it.
Anyway, you did well OP. |

This wasn't enough for you? Locking a 2-3 year old out with no adult supervision is neglect and kicking them in the chest when they attempt to come inside their home with parents is abuse. |

Sure byrddog....jump to conclusions based on ONE second hand online report.
I prefer to be a bit more cautious before involving child services and starting a legal process.
The EVENT itself was wrong and the adult acted wrongly, no debate or argument from me. However ONE EVENT does not make a trend, a conclusion or anything of the sort. That is all I am saying and the last thing I will say in this thread. Take care out there OP and you did well. |

Honestly, I couldn't live with myself if I witnessed child abuse, said to myself, you know what, it's just one time, I'll let it pass, and then discovered a week, or a month later the parent doing the same thing, or possibly even worse. But that's me. I'm funny that way, wanting to protect kids and all that. |

I visited what I thought was an orphanage about 2 months ago. Turns out it was some sort of half-way home for abused children who were removed from their parents. We chatted and she showed me an entire list of such facilities around Seoul. |

My mom left me at a dumpster when I was 5 in the states. After about 30 mins, she came back for me.
She told me she hid and watched just in case I did something stupid. |
