Thanks again for the replies. The car I'm buying is super cheap (sub 1M), so I won't be getting comprehensive insurance. I'll probably just end up going with AIG/Chartis, as the English service is important to me. Educar doesn't seem to have a guaranteed English service and only Korean on their website. The extra money is worth avoiding a potential headache for me. Thanks for the info on the Do-jang CentralCali. I'll speak to my friend who I'm buying the car from and see if he needed it when he bought it. Hopefully we can get by without it.

Cheers all Smile

Any more opinions on the medical coverage thing? It adds about $100 to the car insurance premium over a year, so it'd be worth knowing about. From what I've heard from others, ending up in hospital with a broken leg can easily set you back a million won or two, even taking into account your regular health cover.

The medical coverage thing seems like the accident benefits portion of a western policy. I would definitely get it. A broken bone is not the only thing that can happen in an accident. Soft tissue injuries are quite common and I am sure it would cover things like physiotherapy.

the cops can be pretty creative on how they determine who's to blame (unless you were rear ended while you were fully in your lane, expect the cops to lay some of the blame on you).

Police do not determine fault in accidents, insurance people do. Smile

Yeah, it seems like that for pretty much any accident, the blame is going to go at least 20-80, no matter if you were sitting at the lights or not. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go for the one with injury coverage. I can't seem to find any better company than Chartis with a no-fuss English help line. Worth the peace of mind, I figure. Thanks for the help all, by the end of the week I'll have my own set of wheels. Yay!
