At first we were looking for couples positions, but we have learned that financially, it's better to take two separate jobs, one with housing and one with a housing allowance. I also won't take anything that starts after Aug 1. I'm coming with my wife(she's already been offered a good job starting mid-July. I need comparable hours to my wife's position(otherwise is a recipe for disaster).

That's quite specific. Have you ever tried ordering a Korean meal that's not on the menu?

Probably a dumb question but have you considered applying together, as a couple, and ditching "It has to be Busan, so-and-so hours, starting then etc etc?" There are great openings for couples so you may both be in a better position than what you're doing now.

34 isn't old by any stretch. I think your recruiter is probablly a dick and you should take the advice given and apply to multiple recruiters. The hagwons that do discriminate based on age (especially 34) you probablly wouldn't want to work at anyways. Most of my friends here are in their early to late 30's and some in their 40's and they have no problem finding work. Lots of public schools jobs (contrary to popular belief SMOE isn't laying off all their teachers) and EPIK and GEPIK are still hiring. Also, try teaching adults. I think maybe being older (of course again 34 isn't old) you would be prefered expecially maybe teaching university once you get experiece or are interested in working at one of the many langauge institutes attached to universites. Anyways, don't stress and good luck!!!! Very Happy
