I don't know about that. I know a few Koreans who hate her voice as much as I do. I believe her success has more to do with her being an attractive (until she opens her mouth anyway) foreigner with a good grasp of the language.

It's called multiple intelligences submersible Bob. She is probably fluent in English too, I have heard more annoying voices than that. It maybe the Korean intonation she has adopted. Has anyone heard her speak in English or Italian? She is both attractive and very smart too.

She is NOT attractive.
She's a 7. Anything 8 and over is attractive to me, at least.

She basically speaks Korean with a thick Italian accent. Some Italian dialects can be very nasal.

I think this woman's voice is an example of the "Danger of Foreigners" more than anything else out there. Makes me long for the dulcet tones of alley cats fighting. Where's AES and MBC on this girl? Bunch of hypocrites. That girl commits an act of violence against thousands of people's ears.

A 7? I'd say more a 4 or 5. Regardless, her voice is obviously exaggerated to play up to the pathetic mentality of most of the TV watchers here...

Actually, I've heard plenty of Italians speaking in the same very pronounced nasal voice. I've also heard quite a few Spanish, French and Portuguese speakers with a similar accent (nasal vowels). It's a Latin thing.

There are plenty of Spanish, French, and Portuguese speakers without that nasal voice.
There are plenty of native English speakers with that same nasal sound.

Let's not make this a language thing...it's a people thing.

This is a human quality that is undesirable.
Yes, people can make that sound.
No...they shouldn't.

Her voice is an assault to the ears.
She should take voice lessons to eliminate that absolute horror of a sound.

Sorry, call it what you will, but her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. I don't speak much Korean yet but I can guarantee right now that I will NOT learn it with such an awful accent!!

Having lived in Italy, I know that sometimes their accent can be a little pitchy, but this is ridiculous. Watched the youtube clip someone posted early on here and I literally wanted to throw my laptop out of the window within a minute. *shudder*

The accent of the other contestants on the show sounds more authentic.

You do realize that there are several dialects of Spanish, French, and Portuguese, right?

I think she's from northern Italy. The accents there can be quite nasal (ever heard the Genoese dialect?).

Yep. I was in Italy a while back and visited a wine shop owned by a Tuscan lady who spoke some English. Her voice was hard to get used to as well.

Yes...quite right...did I make any statement to the contrary of that?

Accents are learned...and can be unlearned.
It is a people thing...humans have that ability...yes?

You are making valid points...and not intending to argue with you...just pointing out that the voice in question is obnoxious...regardless of where she hails from.
Others from all over the globe also speak with that nasal voice...though, agreed, with different accents.
While she may very well come from northern Italy and have parents with outrageous Genoese accents, leaning unbearably hard on nasalized vowels before nasal consonants, does that make her particular voice any less unappealing?
It isn't just the nasal sound...but the way she amplifies it, for whatever reason(s), which makes it even more cacophonous.

Comparatively few people on the planet speak with such nasal amplification as to be brutally offensive...unfortunately, this is such an example.

Anyway...just saying.

I've seen the Italian girl do her loud over-the-top reactions and observations on TV, with her girlfriends. Not as bad as Isaac, but still annoying.

It seems like on all those Korean shows, the goal is to act as over-the-top as you can as you can, so they can triple and quadruple splice your reaction.

Ex: Korean girl does a sexy dance.

Guy 1: "wha!"
Guy 2: "wha!"
Guy 3: "WAAAAAAAA!" (different angle) "WAAAAAAAA!" (different angle) "WAAAAAAAA!"

Anyone who has been on k-tv can tell you... that's what they tell you to do. Try for a subtle reaction? They'll get pissed and warn you. They want over the top.

Thank you for pointing this out. She has the most god-awful voice I have ever heard. It's embarrassing, as a foreigner, that she speaks that way. She's on an Italian cooking show on the Food channel and every time she's on my boyfriend and I both lunge for the remote to turn it as quickly as possible.

He asked his co-teacher about her and apparently Koreans admire her for her strong opinions and honest personality. She doesn't worry about what others think. That seems obvious to me, because if she did, she would regulate her tone and try not to sound like the Tasmanian devil.
