what does your contract say?
ive never seen a contract where severance is stated to be optionally thrown forward at the convenience of the employer..... |

| I would be reluctant to trust even a large hogwon to pay me 5 years of severance. If I were you, I'd tell them that I am considering quitting at the end of this contract if you don't get the severance pay at the end of this year. |

Legally they don't have to pay severance until you leave for good. Most hakwons pay severance annually because most people leave after a year. But if you stay for 2 or more years then they don't have to give it to you until you are finished working there. |

I wouldn't trust any hagwon to pay me 6 years of severance the day I quit.
I'll soon be signing for a 5th year at my school. They pay severance once a year. I wouldn't want it any other way.
Same goes with pension. I'll be leaving the country (and my job if necessary) to be sure to cash out before the 10 year rule kicks in. I'm not trusting Korea to pay me 20 years later. |
