Australia is great but it isn't cheap.

^ This about sums it up.

Being a dual US/AUS citizen and having lived in both countries, I can say that when compared to other OECD nations Australia is shockingly expensive for such things as food (both grocery shopping and eating out), alcohol (tax on top of a tax on top of a tax), clothing, real estate, and manufactured goods in general. Wonderful place to live though if you are employed.

As to the academic standards someone else mentioned, Australian universities all rank pretty low in world wide rankings, so I'm not sure where you got that from.

Just to clarify, standards and rankings are 2 different things. While Australian rankings may not cut it on an international scale, there is nothing wrong with the academic quality of most of the top Australian universities. It is as good as anywhere else in the world.

To the OP:
I think you may be out of luck. I am fairly sure that JPs etc only have jurisdiction within the state they are registered to. The Oz consulate has the monopoly here in that regard; hence the ridiculous fee for one person's signature and 5 seconds of their time.

Have dual AUS/US citizenship myself and have lived extensively in both countries.

I agree with everything you just said.

Re: academic rankings. It is a question of higher salary is awarded to the smarter academic. Logically the best academics will only go to prestigious high salaried institutions. Though not all academics are geniuses.

1927: Thanks for being the only person to actually answer my question
i'll chase up that jurisdiction thing, but seems there don't happen to be any JPs here anyway. so, able to, or willing to, the point is moot.

John Junior: I don't/won't work here, after going through the 2 year (and still counting) process of suing my former employer. not too keen to do that again.

Skippy: not sure why you're so aggressive, pretty uncalled for.
why so angry? might be time you went on a long holiday to relax (and to work on your spelling and grammar).
seems like you don't know what you're talking about anyway.
oh, and re: your "cheap" comment, I have about 20-30 documents that I need certified, I could almost fly to Australia for that price and get them done for free.

Joey, I may be wrong so go ahead and check it out.

It may also help to hit up Austcham (http://www.austchamkorea.org/) and the Aus/NZ community group, ANZA (http://www.anzakorea.com/) if you haven't already scoped these avenues.

Someone amongst those 2 groups may be better informed than me on legal matters;)

G'luck

Most Aussies I've met say it's crap. My first recruiter in Korea said he didn't like Aussies because they were picky. No, they have standards.

I also think their admisions standards are pretty low, at least for international students. I work for a company that recruits international students, and I saw their applications before I send it to the universities, and I know if they get in or not. It seems as if they'll let just about any one in.

In my mind, despite it's flaws, Australia is the one country that really does have the academic standards, quality of life, and opportunities that are well ahead of Korea, not to mention the beaches.

Australia's great. Except for all the poisonous snakes, jellyfish and sea creatures.

Korea IS a shithole. And I'm Korean.

It's all shit buddy. My home country is no shining beacon either. Shit in different ways. Oscar Wilde - "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars."

I could see the stars clearly yesterday evening, and they're just as beautiful above this country as they are above mine. I don't live in Seoul anymore thankfully.

Ya I am a snarky bastard at times, but I try to temper it with some helpfulness. Plus little lazy with the grammar. At times it is people asking questions that seem to ask for the moon? Other times, the OP is being demanding, lazy, cheap or just plain stupid.

Joey ya forgot details! My whole perspective of your situation and cheapness changed. Finding out 20 to 30 documents need to be verified, wow!. You are right that will get expensive. Well in doing my research - in different situations there are different ways to verify and certify some documents. Does it have to be done by the Oz consulate or will a Korean Notary and apostille work? Is it possible to send the documents to a lawyer or Notary back home to be processed in bulk. Does you need to be present if certified. Can a family member help and do it back home.

Looks like 1927 showed you two groups that could possible provide some useful info.

So is it, possible for some details on your situation. Help us, help you.
Once again perspective changed. Good Luck.

It's all shit but some places are more shit than others. Korea's one of them. Whoever was responsible for urban planning in Korea should be fired.

Only Changwon, Ilsan, and Bundang were actually planned afaik. The rest of the "planning" - or lack thereof - emerged as a phoenix from the ashes of the Korean war. I recommend checking out those places if the rest of it's grating on you. Only problem is that very few (or none?) Koreans of our generation that live in those places actually grew up / got nurtured there - still too early.

I'm pretty sure Pyeongchon/Beomgye and Guri were heavily planned, as part of the same push as Bundang and Ilsan.
