I'm a solid 21 BMI, but I used to be fat. Lost it with lo-carb. I'm not eating great now, and I gained back maybe... 5 of the 30 pounds I lost? But honestly, I weigh myself every day, and just sorta eat less when I see the number go up a little. I yoyo but I don't think a yoyo of 3 pounds or so is really anything to be concerned about. I'm way too lazy (and I love Korean junk food way too much) to be intensive about it.

Here we go again. I'm glad the OP lost weight and living a healthier lifestyle, but people really need to realize that their experiences and goals in life are not the same as everyone else's. It's extremely easy to lose weight? Yeah, maybe not for everyone. Not everyone's body works the same.

I'll admit I'm overweight, mostly a beer belly. A few years ago I gave up beer and soda, started eating better (not 100% wonderful, but much better). I even started to jog daily and do a 45 mins routine each day. I also worked at a physically intensive job. I'll agree, cutting out soda/beer allowed me to lose more than 10 lbs in the first couple of weeks. It was amazing. After that, though, I pretty much plateaued. After about 8 months of it I gave up. I'm not making excuses, I made a decision that I would rather live my life giving in to temptation every so often instead of being miserable most of the day with very limiting results.

And that's my point. I made that decision. At this point in my life, I don't really care if I live to be 100 if I'm not trying to enjoy life. Some people enjoy jogging everyday and eating like a bird. I do not. I am physically active, but I'm not a gym rat. I try to find a balance. I don't think I'm better than anyone who is obese, and I don't think gym rats are better than me. We just have different goals and experiences.

I have a friend who is rail thin. He eats like a garbage disposal, though. When we're together he eats 2x the amount I do, at least, and he never stops. And he keeps up, if not surpasses me, on the beer front. I probably have at least 80 lbs on him (I also have lots of muscle, I'm naturally large). Same with one of my siblings. Growing up she always ate more than us and led a similar lifestyle, yet she was always much thinner than the rest of us. It's just the way it is.

So, I would suggest, stop feeling superior to other people because you have no idea what their situation is, and start feeling better about yourself. I've found that once I stop comparing myself to others I start to feel better about myself. Yeah, I don't have an excuse. This is my life. I don't feel the need to make excuses, and I don't understand why you feel that people need to make excuses to you. Many people simply don't have the same goal as you, so you haven't beaten them. You're not even playing the same game. Be proud of yourself, not judgemental of others.

I think the gym is not needed, I mean are your grandparents fat?
your parents? while mine aren't, my grandparents were never fat. and still they are not fat, lean as can be. they are 90
my parents also, well my dad has a little beer belly, but not much really
my mum has one too, my parents like to drink. but they are thin.,

also my uncles, aunts, relatives in general and their friends are all average.
no one is fat around us. now

my dad has NEVER stepped foot in a gym in all is life, he is 65 and that goes for my granddad, mum, grandma, uncle etc.
I mean did people really hit the gym back in 60's? only the pros really.

so my advice is, eat healthy, and EAT LESS, you will be surprised you don't need that much pasta, or that second taco. you think you do, but really you don't. small portions.
and go for a walk every night.
that's it, you can live your whole life thin without stressing out in the gym
ok if you want to look like brad pitt, then you gotta hit the gym.

but to lean and healthy just follow the steps I said
walking, eating less, and avoid junk
simple as pie hahhaha

ohhh and of course booze will bring the spare tire
but I ain't giving up my booze, might need to cut out the Jack n cokes though, might need to go back to the straight Whiskey. LOL

Well, my grandparent's grew up during the famine imposed by Stalin, and later were treated to a long stint in a concentration camp. Despite that, my grandfather was always large, while my grandmother was always slim, even after they came to Canada and had an abundance of food. It's a very modern invention that slim=healthy and natural and fat=sick and unnatural. It's just another way for people to pretend they're better than others.

By the way, my grandparents would think anyone who starves themselves just to look a certain way would be criminally insane.

While I agree that being extremely thin is a relatively new thing, being morbidly obese has never been considered healthy, and we're seeing a lot more of that these days.

The 6 pounds that I'd like to lose would have been considered silly a mere 50 or 60 years ago. Even after losing the 6 pounds, I wouldn't be considered a twig, though, as I have one of those dramatic hourglass shapes that just don't ever lose the T&A without making my face look like a skeleton. My waist is really thin, but I'll always have hips and a bust. When I was about 20, I did get that thin, and my grandmother yelled at me. Looking back at photos, she was right. Some body shapes just don't look good as twigs. I had amazing Jessica Rabbit legs, but I looked ill.

I have an obese dad, though, and he certainly isn't healthy. I think that, if you're so fat that you can't walk up a few flights of stairs in a timely manner, and without huffing and puffing, you're unhealthy.

I'm working on losing my college weight now. I have around 20 more pounds to go, but I definitely gained it by stress eating and binge drinking. I had a 4.0 GPA, was in student government and a fraternity, and worked a part time job. Most on campus food was junky and I just didn't have the discipline to make great food choices. It's definitely tough to keep the weight off with an incredibly high pressure lifestyle where you "work hard, play hard." I had a blast, but now it's time to pay the piper, so I've been eating a lot better and hitting the weights hard.

I've lost 1 and a half pounds in the past week. 4 and a half to go.

I went to Costco yesterday and loaded up on fiber cereal, salmon, salsa, and other healthy foods to make it easier.

Good on you, OP, for dropping the weight when you did. Not to steal anyone's thunder, but please keep in mind that this loss was accomplished at a young age. As you get older, your metabolism slows and odds are you won't see such dizzying results in such a short period of time.

Good, though, that this stresses the basics: eat less crap and move more and you'll lose weight. And some are still remarkably unknowing when it comes to soda..just how much pure sugar you're consuming with no health benefit whatsoever.

Was at 205 about a year ago when I switched to whole foods/exercised a lot and lost 60 pounds. Never felt better. The only problem is all that clothing had to go, now I need more pants. But it's good to be lean and strong again.

205 ain't that bad depending on how tall you are. I think if you're around 5'10 - 6 ft, 205 is a good weight assuming it's mostly muscle.
