I didn't think the complaint was much at all: Typical recruiter fare. Until you get the visa stamped in your passport, they or the school might toss you over in a heartbeat for someone with blonde hair and blue eyes who smiles a lot...
So, being promised a job that will start in two months and then not getting your calls responded to and then finding out the job went to someone else is nothing new. Happens all the time.
Because the industry is a sewer.
And the attack on the complaintant underscores that as well:
| Quote: |
| Nothing is ever set in stone until you have a contract in your hand. Even then, depending on your situation, things are still never certain. Its ESL in Korea. Welcome. |
Which reads to me like, "Everybody already knows recruiters are pimps and treat everyone like wh0res! So you got bent over and took one up the tuckus! Why cry? Nobody else would have expected anything different!"
The guy was told he had a specific job two months down the road.
Two months later, the job has magically dissappeared with no warning.
But, have no fear, they'll promise you another job --- one you might actually get ---- or not.
Wow. Another promise!!
It's a sewer...
People familiar with the industry should not be surprised this is how it works.
But, ---- I'm not lining up to become part of the recruiter crowd --- knowning that in my day-to-day practice ------- I'll routinely make promises to people that I will frequently break - without so much as a message.
--- making promises so the person won't keep looking elsewhere and finding a better offer with another recruiter.
Yes, this is how "the game" is played.
I guess you can't have a conscience in the pimp game...
I couldn't work a job, no matter how good the pay is, if I knew part of my job description was lying to people and stringing them along knowing some of them were going to be screwed...
And I'm happy I didn't put my real name with this ---- so eddiejonz and the recruiter mafia can't black list me within the ESL industry...
Now back to being just another online forum loser - like most of the other expats in Korea.... |

It's unfortunate that I have to write this. I am a very decent person and I believe in conflict resolution and the power of kindness.
But when it comes to bad practice from a company the word needs to go out there so other people can be aware. I have read all the posts about E for S and Tim, and now it's time for me to add my own voice.
I do not want to participate in defamation of character or slander, but I simply want to give my fellow expats a heads up about Tim, who should not be trusted or negotiated with. He lied to me, he lead me to believe there was an opportunity for me, and then he completely dropped me, dodging my emails and my phone calls. In other words, he is simply shady and his employers should know that he is creating a bad reputation for E for S and screwing over people's lives and plans.
I wrote nothing but kind letters to Tim, made nothing but kind phone calls. I never once rejected an offer given to me because there was never an offer made. Yet I banked on E for S because Tim continued to lead me on, making me believe that there was a position available for me. I left my bank accounts open in Korea and nearly purchased plane tickets to get back into the country because of his false promises. But the worst is that I turned down other positions available to me in Korea and in Vietnam. I turned down good jobs because Tim continued to use bad practices.
Honestly, he didn't even have the courtesy to tell me "no." That's all he needed to do, but instead he just led me on and then vanished into thin air. This isn't high school anymore. We're all professional people. Give it to us straight, Tim.
I have now accepted a great position in the USA, but that was not my plan because the love of my life, who I met in Korea, will now have to find ways to get into the USA just so we can be together. Tim has cost me money, has ruined my plans that he helped create, and I am extremely displeased with E for S.
This is simply bad practice. I have a Master's degree, great references, and I'm a very nice person, and I am extremely reliable. That said, I advise any fellow expat to exercise caution when dealing with E for S.

| I had the same experience with EforS. Got "penciled" down and asked to contact him again after two weeks. After several ignored calls and emails I gave up on EforS. I must say that this whole company screams out "SKETCHY" from the moment you walk in that room, just wishI had realised it then. Stay away from EforS...FAR FAR AWAY |

I would also like to suggest anyone to avoid this company like the plague. I am not going to toss any particular name in the mud, but I got royally screwed over.
If you want specifics, you can PM me for details, but the bottom line is that I signed a contract and was told they applied for my visa issuance number. They had some issues with the school at the last minute which isn't their fault, but the way the treated me was atrocious. I also have a strong hunch they never applied for my visa issuance #.
As a result, the documents that I had gathered from immigration that were still valid expired and now I am left with no documents or job in Korea. I signed the contract over a month ago and was told "I had the job" a couple weeks prior to that. I was told that I should be ready to do my Visa Run any day and be ready for that. After a couple weeks of waiting, I knew something was up as it doesn't take more than 10 days max to get a visa issuance #.
Just know that if you agree to work for them you are simply a means to an end. This doesn't apply only to this company for sure as is obvious to many who have worked at a hagwon or Korea in general. However, as an experienced teacher who has a few years previous experience in Korea I am completely shocked at how violated I got.
On a side note, they did give me the key money for my apartment so I am stuck in Korea with no job and no money to pay rent. |

There are good and bad things about this job as with any job. I have just resigned with EforS for a third year. I have always been paid on time and in full. they actually gave me a raise this year but not my second year. The best thing about this job is the money for the hours. I work from noon to 5:30 with my first hour just being prep work. I make 2.8.
The bad thing (or good for some I suppose) is the lack of support for problems I have with student behavior. They basically want teachers to deal with everything themselves and always be nice to students. Pretty typical hagwon stuff but you are all alone in these positions.
As far as Tim goes....I wasn't hired by him. I will say that he has really helped me out in the last year. He has covered for me when I was in the hospital and he helped me find a new apartment. Whenever I have had trouble he shows up and helps me out. He stood up for me once when the school was angry with me about a student getting hurt in the hallway outside my classroom. It is also nice to have a foreigner in his position to help communicate with the boss. He has helped me with several communication problems.
I do know that it is getting harder and harder to get these after school jobs. I have recommended three friends to the company all with more than three years experience. They only hired one. |

Quite the back and forth in this thread. Like luckylady said on page 1, the truth probably lies in the middle.
I would not gobble up the OP's story nor would I gobble up the follow up post by Eddie or the other anti-"Tim" stories. All of these are personal accounts that are one-sided.
One person will hate a place or a recruiter while another will have no problems. It is very dependant on each individual and unless something is documented and shows a clear factual pattern, all it is is one more online story. |

Actually, I have to say that my friend was also treated in a similar way as others have posted. She was led to believe they were interested in her, and apparently emailed many times, and kept in touch. Sent a list of schools she would be interested in , then when arriving in Korea, was told only 1 would b available (a much worse location) but still was not shown a contract, she noticed. After her previous experience, noting still no contract appearance at all, she just didn't call him. He even didn't call her or check in with her ever again.
She's quite nice and she was really surprised at the behaviour.
I think there's definitely a common thread through these complaints, and I find Eddie's answer a little suspect, sorry maybe it isn't, but saying that the guy will be blacklisted seems really out of proportion to his text message. Really does sound like someone who works for the company. |

So eddie doesn't work for that company, but knows ALL about this situation.
Either that story is bull and he actually DOES work for the company, or the company is full of asses that let personal/professional info slip.
If ya speak for the company, so be it. Say your piece, and let the other side be known. I think it's great to hear both sides.
But this little song and dance about knowing EVERYTHING, yet not being with the company - that's a cop out. |

Isn't this an after-school gig? If so then I know someone who bussed out to Icheon(90 minutes SE of Seoul) to meet with them and a school but they never showed up. So this thread was awaken from Aug. last year, yeah they're probably still in business doing the two bank account thing and evading taxes and all. |
