As I'm sure you know by now, the above paragraph isn't even necessary here in Korea. Here, it's simply: your buddy was beaten, he should get blood money.
Btw, you didn't get back to me about the pictures of the bad guy.

That is very unfortunate, and I hope Steve recovers quickly.

Just a thought, but maybe offering a modest reward is counterproductive. I think it was the book "Freakonomics" that looked at the effect where people who would have done something for altrustic reasons (no compensation) are dissuaded from doing it when offered small compensation.

One hopes that the offender's associates that night would come forward because they feel bad about what happened and want to do the right thing. That is an honorable act. Selling someone out (as it may be interpreted) for financial gain is not.

I would think that using social networking sites to publicize the investigative effort would magnify this effect. If someone did come forward, they would want to be recognized for their integrity, without that being contaminated by any suggestion of them being an especially cheap Judas.

Due to trying to find the guy, you can't post pictures or videos of the guy? Doesn't make sense. I know Korea has strict anti-defamation laws, but I've seen lots of "wanted" posters with video stills, looking for the public's help.

yeah this totally does not make sense

If you hang around bars and niteclubs then you better be into some form of martial art. Because at some point you are inevitably going to run into this type of idiot.

These places are basically where males compete for females. The ones with low IQ's tend to rely on brute force.

"we asked him why he felt the need to do so" I am absolutely sure this was the way it was phrased.

Carry a blackjack. The only problem is he probably has other idiots with him. I hope they got a good picture of this guy on a CCTV camera, I really do. You're friend needs to go to the FBI. Because if turns out this guy really was an American, he could face seriously stiff penalties in the USA (possibly life in prison). It's against the law in the USA to harm another American outside of the US and the penalty might be life in prison.

Something about this story doesn't feel right. Maybe it's the fact the OP said no pictures can be shown. Or the fact the perpetrator flipped them off then came back just to attack Steve. (While his Steve's other friends just stand around except one guy who is gutsy enough to run after him. He talks to him saying he should come back? Unbelievable.) What is it you aren't telling us?

It sounds carefully worded so that all the blame for the incident is on one party. I know I'm not alone as two others find it hard to believe the pictures can not be shown to us. If you want solid leads on finding the person then post the pictures of his face. If someone does know something tell it to law enforcement, not this poster or the website that was set up.

I'm thinking the perpetrator was probably a Korean American, most likely from Los Angeles or Southern California. He probably said he was Chi-Am to avoid detection. Stories of Kor-Ams going around picking fights with Caucasians abound in Korea.

There was a white guy in his group though.

As for gyopos going around picking fights with white esl teachers it is more myth than fact I think.

Without a shot of the guy's face, the description of Asian male, 5'8", short hair, glasses, and v-neck t-shirt doesn't exactly narrow things down.

The only thing for me that doesn't make sense is why they aren't releasing a pic of the alleged perpetrator. Also strange that Hoost said there are pictures on the facebook page, when there are NOT.

As for the "carefully worded" explanation of the incident, we ALL know that it didn't go down exactly like that. It's ok though, because the the guy that they're looking for will have a story that's WAAAAAY off the mark.

Don't fault the guy for picking his words carefully.

You think wrong.

Scores of Korean Americans from SoCal are infamous as troublemakers. They go around drunk and calling out white guys with Korean girls with remarks like "Hey, don't take our women," or "Go the $%$$! back to your country" and the like. They also know that police will probably side with the gyopos more than the non-gyopos, too, so they act all tough and stuff.

Just about every post about them on this board has been negative, and that's no accident.

How this thread turned into an MBC-style condemnation of gyopos in Korea is not acceptable. The thread has been cleaned and it will be watched to make sure it stays on-topic.
