They probably take details so if the cards were stolen and the perp caught on tape they can count you out of the enquiry.

I'm quite sure that if you drop them into a mail box then they'll get sent to the company that issued them.

I always use the hearts with cute cashiers. Doesn't come out perfect on some older touch pads though.
