| There certainly was a problem before with foreigners running around on fraudulent F visas. I knew of a couple of cases and initially felt angry about that 'cause I knew there was going to be a backlash from K-immi. Typically, there was a backlash and as with other similar immigration visa issues in the past, they tried to make it too black and white without realizing the full legal implications at the time. |
The only massive visa fraud I'd heard of was Africans and Russians using brokers to get fake D8 business visas. These are apparently good for 5 years, and they could just borrow the money from a company (since the government doesn't track it after visa is issued) and then just enter Korea for 5 years and do whatever they wanted.
I'd heard that the issues had to do not really with Korea but marriage fraud in other countries. Some other SE asian countries were complaining about the abuse some of the women were suffering and in fact one or two countries banned their citizens from marrying Koreans. |

You could be correct. My speculation may be a little off base. It still seems strange that those worst affected by the policy change at the time were foreigners marrying Koreans in Korea. K-immi refused to accept the documentation from the western embassies certifying the marriage. This particular policy was hitting westerners marrying Koreans rather than Korean guys marrying Asian women from other Asian countries.
Someone else suggested to me that it could have been because in the past it was too easy for the westerner to leave the country and the marriage at the same time when the marriage was only registered in Korea. The Korean spouse had a much harder time proving the marriage back in the westerner's home country.
That could be true, but I'm still left wondering - Imagine if the westerner's home country also instituted the same policy. A westerner would have to marry a Korean outside of both Korea and the westerner's home country |

so i called immigration today to check the status of my F-6 (applied at the start of July) and they told me that it has been granted.
no idea when it was granted as they were supposed to call me to come and pick it up but either way, my wife now owns me.
good luck to the others who are waiting. i'd say why not give them a call just to check. if i hadn't have done it today i would have been waiting for 6 months probably. |

| So, cutting through all of this debate, what actually happens now? I mean what happens and what is the exact procedure in 2012 if you marry a Korean in Korea? What do you have to do and what is immigration expecting? |

It sounds like if there is any way for Brits to get married in Korea and they are planning to stay it would be much better to do it that way.
I am an American who got married in Korea which was a lot easier then what many are describing. |
