I'm not familiar enough with Incheon to know where Bupyeong is, but you should go to Wolmido and China Town when you get a free afternoon. The China Town gate is right outside of Incheon subway station, and Wolmido is a very short bus or taxi ride from there. Have fun.

When I lived in Bucheon and Incheon, Bupyeong was where we went for fun on Friday nights most of the time! Life in Incheon is just fine, as long as you're close to a subway station. Also, since the summer is coming to a close, I recommend getting away for a weekend to one of the Yellow Sea Islands such as Deokjeokdo or Jawoldo. There are some nice beaches and it's a completely different world from the sprawl of Seoul/Incheon. Better hurry, though, because it'll be too cold to swim in about 3-4 weeks.

I'm sure I'll be using this forum a lot during my stay, so thought I'd best introduce myself.

I'm teaching in Incheon, in a Hagwon. As Hagwon's go I think I've landed a pretty good one. The managers and other teachers are really nice and they're very helpful and patient with me... i'm still learning the way they do things.

Even though they have decided my holiday (vacation) time already, they've planned the around the national holidays, which means i get 4-5 day weekends and such. The students are a mixed bag, some are lovely and amazing, whilst others make me want to rip my skin off and sit in a bath of vinegar.

I'm currently living in Bupyeong, which is a pretty cool area... even if it does smell a bit. At the end of September I'm going to be moved closer to the school, in Cheongna (Seo-Gu). It's sort of out in the sticks, but its a really nice, posh area (that's still being built) but its got plenty of nice bars and restaurants - and its close to Geomam Station.

Anyway, enough of my self-indulgence. I'm happy to finally get on this board, and i'm sure to have many questions in the future.

Very Happy

Welcome to the boards, it's an excellent resource for many things related to ESL or Korea in general. Be wary though, a good 50% of the members on this board and bitter trolls whose sole purpose in life is to make other people feel as bad as they do. Don't be discouraged though, if you have questions or concerns, feel free to post, but if you get replies from trolls, simply ignore them rather than feed them and they will slither back to the holes from which they came.

Also know that many people on here do not see hagwons in a favorable light... Most of these people have had 1 or maybe 2 hagwon jobs (which make them experts on the subject of course) which didn't end well for them and generalize the entire hagwon system as being complete crap. I for one am perfectly happy at my hagwon. I, like you, have had many many jobs before coming to Korea and know what a truly horrible boss is. Many of the so-called "veterans" on here came to Korea fresh out of college, with a hagwon being their first job ever -- other than mowing the lawn for mommy and daddy, and can't handle a typical (i.e. unreasonable) boss.

Anyway, welcome to Korea, hope you enjoy it here, I know I am.

You should really try to get some of those holidays lumped together to get a whole week (9 days with both weekends) to get out of the country. Korea is cool at first but China and Japan have more to offer if you're interested in siteseeing

I don't know. I suppose if you only plan to stay a year it doesn't matter so much.

Bupyeong's okay, but it's kind of a hole compared to Art Center, in regards to night life. Sure, there are more places, but they're mostly dives. Anyway, Bupyeong's convenient, in that it's where the Incheon line meets the 1 line, so you can get to Seoul quickly, and Art Center quickly, as well as Chinatown and the rest.

Welcome!

I used to live in Bupyeong! I was right across from the station there. I do miss my old stompin' ground from time to time.[/i]
