well there aren't really any country bars or clubs to speak of seeing how this is korea after all, but i highly recommend spending all your time at a place in itaewon called "hooker hill". now don't let the name scare you. even though it might not look it, it's the most happening place in korea. you might just have to go in a few establishments and ask for "the usual" before they will take you to the secret underground clubs.
i don't normally do this but i'll let you in on a huge secret. go to a place called Always Homme on hooker hill. if you buy a few of the people there some shots they will show you the hottest niteclub underneath the establishment that is full of the most beautiful women you will ever see. |
Seem like the type that spends alot of time on hooker hill.
To each his own... |
Always Homme is a gay bar, located on Homo Hill, which is next to Hooker Hill. Either the guy is REALLY confused, or he's taking you for a ride.
Oh, and if you ever use the term SoKo again, I will contact every club in the city and have you blacklisted. |
Are you having a laugh? I think he's having a laugh!
But no, really folks, if he goes to Always HOMME and buys dudes drinks that is just asking for it. |

As far as country music, what about Grand Ole Opry on hooker hill? I've never been in, but I see people with cowboy hats walking in and out. |

Yep, country music, dance floor, Confederate flag, racist army guys, and jello shots. It can make for a fun night. |

Don't let these jokers pull your chain.
If you're into top 40 and hip hop:
The Hongdae area is packed with small bar/clubs that play this kind of stuff. It's a younger area, mostly Korean university students and FOB ESL teachers who like cheap drinks and cheaper thrills. There are only two decent/large EDM clubs in Hongdae; M2 and Mansion, both which charge cover, have a dress code, and charge double for what most of the other bars in the area do for drinks. Mansion is a bit more upscale, M2 is rowdy and they have a solid DJ lineup. For hip hop the best bet is Club Naked...just be prepared to rub elbows with US Military. Ever since King Club and UN Club in Itaewon were put off-limits, the GI crowd has really pushed in there.
Itaewon is the international district, with a much more diverse crowd in terms of age/ethnicity. You can find upscale hip hop bars like Boombar (upscale, 20K cover, expensive drinks) small chic lounges like LUV and Globe, big, exclusive venues like Glam and Mute, rowdy basement EDM joints like B One, etc. A good place to start is the street behind the Hamilton Hotel. There are over 20 venues back there that cater to a variety of tastes.
The areas south of the river (Apgujeong, Cheongdam, Sinsa, Nonhyun) are usually collectively referred to as "Gangnam" which I'm sure you've probably already heard of . Venues down there tend to be overpriced, but there are some massive EDM venues. Octagon and Ellui are the heavyweights these days. Mass and Holic are also a good time. If you go there, bring plenty of cash, and dress STYLISH. I've seen plenty of slobs roll up with their friends swigging soju straight out of a bottle and get turned away.
Hopefully this stuff points you in the right direction. As far as country music goes, you're buggered. I don't even know where to begin on that one. |
Thanks.
What do you mean by "put off-limits"? Do you mean the clubs shut down or just that US Military cant go there? |

Good find. If this place gets enough girls it should make for a fun night. |

No. Because using the figure was a convenient way to provide a contrast to your suggestion that ending up in a tranny bar or gay bathhouse would be a way to go wrong. Not everyone would perceive that to be the case; in fact, some people would consider either/both of those things to be signs of the evening going really, really right.
Now if I could only find a hip-and-happening Country-n-Top 40 Tranny jimjilbang (to use for social science research, of course) I'd know that SoKo has finally become my king of hip and happening place... |

I was thinking more fresh off the boat white dude who thinks every Asian girl is hot ending up at a tranny bar where all these girls are so sweet to him without realizing what was going on. Or, alternatively, waking up in the middle of the night in the sleeping room of a jimjilbang with two dudes having sex next to him. If one were to stumble upon these things without pursuing them, it could definitely qualify as going wrong, though they aren't inherently wrong on their own. I've seen the former scenario play out countless times in Southeast Asia, while the latter happened to my buddy (gyopo).
Does said SoKo club serve SoCo? |

Yes, both.
Junkie is awful, every weekend I've gone there, there has been hardly anyone there. No wonder they keep changing the name. That and it's in the middle of a business district with nothing around it. |

Hello guys. I moved to Seoul but have only went out in Itaewon mostly. Mainly hit up the same 1 club in Hongdae and Gangnam when I go there. I had a big list of places from 1-2 years ago. Some things might have changed so wanting to get an up to date low down of the different scenes.
Here is what I have for Itaewon. Am I missing anything major or is one place closed?
UN - Hiphop joint
Kings Club - Similar to UN but more brighter.
The Venue - Pretty chill place with old school hiphop.
Helios - Bar that plays top40/hiphop.
Boom Bar - Upscale hiphop joint
Seoul Pub - Popular bar
Club Able - Large house/trance joint.
Glame - Big house/emd club
Mute - Big house/emd club
Looking to get opinions of people that know the Gangnam and Hongdae scene pretty well and can break it down for me. Something like the 2 best bars, 2 best big house/emd cubs, and the 2 best hiphop/top40 clubs for dancing. Best means fun atmosphere, number of people, liveliness, etc.
Thanks |

Able is a non-entity in the Korean nightlife scene now. It lasted about a month before it completely tanked.
B One, which used to be next to the Hamilton Hotel, moved into one of the most coveted (but also considered cursed) spaces in Seoul, the former Hard Rock Cafe/Cage/Limelight in the basement of the hotel. It's right on the main drag, highly visible, 10M from the station exit #2, etc. It has demolished any semblance of the former "curse" that prevented other businesses from thriving there, and is busy seven nights a week.
South of the river, with the exception of the seemingly already doomed "The A", not much has happened. |

Thanks. So here is what I got for Gangnam and Hongdae. Anyone care to break these down further? Also any closed down or dead now a days? Missing anyplace of note?
Gangnam
Ellui - Big house club. More of a rowdy, younger crowd
Phantom - Really nice hiphop club
Octagon - Another big house club. More of the bottle service/rich kid crowd.
NB -
Harlem -
M2 -
Answer -
Turn - Salsa
Mambo - Salsa
Club Naomi - Salsa
Hongdae
Harlem - Hiphop
Mansion - Upscale house / electronic
M2 - house / electronic place
Cacoon - Mix of electronic and hip-hop
NB - Pretty large hip-hop club with a few floors. .
NB2-
Naked - Small club but not quite as small as UN in Itaewon.
Gogos - Mostly foreigners. 2 floors. .
B1 -
Papa Gorila -
Bonita - Salsa joint
Macando - Salsa joint
NB's and Harlem are in both Gangnam and Hongdae? |
