Another spectacular whiff...well this is Dave's...

You've done nothing to deny that the disposable culture we live in has largely been the construct of the USA. It's Western companies who are outsourcing their manufacturing to Asian countries in order to increase profits. It's also Western companies who encourage constant upgrading of your possessions. New iPhone 5, anyone? This has nothing to do with Psy.

Well yeah the US has been a large part of creating and disseminating a disposable consumer-mad culture, but countries that go along are also part of the situation..within those countries are certain protagonists who use pop singers (among other things and people) as the face of this type of culture construction/propagation...if u don't care for a particualr trend u don't need to join in..if u do u become part of the process

Oh, don't get me wrong, I have a bespoke suit (no, the real deal, not some Ittaewon back alley special). I just find it funny that your complaining about that here. It's just as out of place as if you'd be complaining that you need to drive to Seoul from the provinces every time your Porsche needs an oil change.

You already were way off in assuming this had anything to do with teaching children, and you're no closer to grasping it now...hey just admit you're a lover of disposable pop culture, we'll understand (no one said anything about sympathizing).

So, you admit you're a lowly hagwon kindie teacher with delusions of grandeur...Mmm, reminds me of something I saw somewhere:

Oh, the irony...

U really are missing a few spokes in your wheel if u somehow deduce I work in a hakwon kindie.

And your judgement of people who do work there as "lowly" speaks volumes about yourself.

You clearly don't get irony or sarcasm.

You already said "you admit you're a lowly hagwon kindie teacher with delusions of grandeur", too late to turn around and attempt to pass it off as sarcasm.

Same thing u attempted to do in the thread about Psy's popularity concerning your comparison of Psy to Jackie Chan.

Well cheer up, K-pop nation is sure to give u a plastic badge of honor for your efforts, and Psy'll probably toss a chunner your way.

Looks like I struck a nerve.

Exactly. Psy has had a long successful in career in Korea but America will use him as a one hit wonder and spit him out when they are done with him. The problem here isn't with Psy, who is just a guy trying to make more money with his brief moment of fame. The problem is with the North American infatuation with fads. They give people a brief glimpse of fame then toss them in the garbage when the novelty wears off.
You have the right idea but you haven't quite worked out all the pieces yet. The problem lies with American culture, not the lemmings that are thrown into the machine. Your rage shouldn't be directed at Psy, who is just the latest in a long line of plebs caught up in this American nightmare. It should be directed at the American "throw away" culture and the people who force this upon the general public.

It's more about educating some no marks on here.

You're right, it is to a certain degree a US-generated situation, but non-US people, although in some (ahem) countries intensely conditioned to follow the herd, aren't robots.

If they decide to join in, they (and the media faces of this type of cheap culture) are a part of it.

Come on Dave, everyone is entitled to their opinion. That kind of attitude is beneath you.

I agree that Korea does suffer from a herd mentality. I think that it is common in most countries but I think in Korea it is even more prevalent.
However, I don't think the Psy situation really applies here. He's been famous in Korea for 12 years. It's only in America that he is being used as a disposable pop puppet. The Korean media is just excited that someone from their country is doing well in America.

I too prefer to invest my time and money in something that is, IMHO, more substantial. When I went home for summer I bought a suit that was locally made using local materials. It was very expensive but I believe it was worth it.

I think you and I agree on this matter. However, it is also important not to criticize people who have a different point of view.

Part of the expression of one's opinion can and will include a critique of another point of view.

It's one of the functions of a forum.

If everyone stood politely on the sidelines there would be no point.

And in fact your view that one shouldn't criticize is in itself a criticism...so really, no offense taken but I'll pretty much do as I please.

Fine, it is my opinion that your point of view is complete crap.

Psy has nothing to do with tailoring. Psy has zero influence over the garment industry, especially in the United States. There is nothing to link Psy and the selection of apparel available in stores. I fail to see how Psy has influenced fashion designers across the globe over the last 20 years. The fact that you believe they are linked indicates a mind that is drawing bad conclusions and may not be perceiving things correctly. Throw in the fact that you refuse to admit this and retract your garbage statement, means that I seriously question your motives in posting this.

That is my opinion.

Now, let's return tot he topic. Care to enlighten us with your extensive knowledge regarding fabrics and fashion design? How much time do you spend sewing and making your own clothes? Where do you shop for fabrics? Any designers that appeal to you? Care to post pics of your wardrobe and highlight some pieces that display your fashion philosophy?

Oh please. You start this thread, say some off things. And then play the "geez, can't everyone just chill" card? Talk about a weasel.
