So the Verizon iPhone 5 will work on the LTE bands here in Korea... but the CDMA (3G) will not be available because Korea is GSM (3G)

Is this what others have discovered?

Forgive my ignorance but I've never owned a smart phone. Is the monthly charge for smart phone service a lot more than for regular cell phones?

Apparently one purchased in Australia will work here.

It'll be here in a few weeks anyway. Have a little patience.

Subscribing. Curious to see if US iPhone 5 will work in Korea.

Not sure if you guys saw this, but the iPhone 5's that have been released thus far are UNLOCKED. Thus, an iphone 5 purchased from Verizon can be activated and used on AT&T and vice versa.

Also, I was under the impression all the iPhone 5s assentially are the same now - unlike previous iPads and iPhones. The Verizon/Sprint and AT&T iPhone 5's all have the same components, and will work on ALL LTE carriers GLOBALLY (something that the New iPad cannot do - still baffles me why they didn't include that). Am I wrong on this? Seems to make sense given an AT&T iPhone 5 can work on Verizon and vice versa?

Ok, further digging - seems the Verizon iPhone 5 WILL work with pretty much every carrier - AT&T, Tmobile - and I'm guessing Korean SIMs.

Fack. I should of pre-ordered.

Yes the verizon iphone 5 is unlocked but its only gsm unlocked. it is still carrier locked. so you have to get verizon to unlock it for u which seems hard to get them to do it. even if you buy the iphone 5 from verizon off contract at full retail it is still locked to the carrier

I'm not sure you're right about that. Did you watch the video? It shows the guy putting in another carriers card and the phone working. I think it was AT&T, which is shockin given its a Verizon phone.

I looked into it a bit more - all Verizon 4g LTE phones have to be unlocked by law. So it's not just the Verizon iPhone 5 that is unlocked.

I hope that's true because I've been thinking of getting a verizon iphone 5. i even called them to see if it would be carrier unlocked. they said it would not be carrier unlocked but that's just from a sales. she didnt seem to know very much.
