OP, we had a similar situation with all the paperwork. We filled everything out, stated that we had wanted a cat for awhile but had waited until we had a big enough apartment to adequately provide for one. We then got an e-mail back stating that we hadn't been specific enough on the paperwork. We were actually asked to answer the question, "how would you love the cat?" (I generally start under the chin, petting gently...) For some reason waiting 3 years until we acquired bigger housing wasn't dedication enough for ARK. Screw it, we rescued a cat posted on craigslist. Later we were contacted and asked if we wanted 2 cats. At first the person in charge of ARK deemed us too wishy wahsy and then wanted us to adopt two cats. Organization is not their strong suit.

I've also had a colleague who dog sat for a friend. When the friend never returned, this colleague went to ARK to see if someone would take the dog (he already had two dogs of his own) and he was taken apart by the ARK people for being irresponisble.

I know ARK does some things well, but being welcoming and considerate is not one of them.

I wanted to share my bad experience with ARK:

After over a month of back and forth emails with fosters for a certain dog, a 3 page application and a lot of follow up emails the fosters came to visit our home. My husband and I spent a few hours with the dog while the fosters went shopping and spent at least another hour going over the details of the dog's history etc. 2 days later we received an email saying that they needed a few days to think over the situation and see if we could adopt the dog. A few days after that we finally got confirmation that we could indeed adopt the dog and to come over on the weekend. We got excited and started making plans and did some shopping to get ready for the dog.

Less than 24 hours before we were to pick up the dog we got another email apologizing, telling us that the foster parents are just to attached to let him go. I'm really angry right now, especially that we were investigated so thoroughly (even to the point of being asked if/when we are planning on having kids) before being approved to adopt this dog, and it has all ended up in such an emotional roller coaster.

Yea! right on! Who are they to ask questions?? You're the super-awesome person willing to take in this K9. Don't they realize how wickedly great you are? They made you wait to think about it? For what? To make sure it wasn't a spur of the moment decision, and you won't be on Daves ESL a year from now asking someone to take the dog when you go home. I mean, so what if the animals they are placing have been abused, neglected or abandoned, YOU were on an emotional rollercoaster! And they asked about kids? Next think you know they are telling you that dog isn't good recommended around young children. The nerve!
