What scares me is the fact that America will most likely have to flip a great portion of the bill rebuilding this mess of a country when the shit does eventually hit the fan. Not to mention thousands more lives lost to a country that I'm sure most Americans wouldn't want to defend.

It would be much more convenient if China just annexed the entire peninsula rather than risk the destabilization within the region another Korean war would cause.

If you read the Korean media, you will see a lot of positive news on the bonding and relationship-developing of the two countries. But the western media doesn't make note of it, because stuff like that doesn't sell.

I've seen on CNN and read in the New York Times about the two naval forces opening a line of communication and also shutting off of the propaganda blasting across the border.

And for some reason Seoul seems alot safer to me than Taipei... so I am not looking for employment in Taiwan but hope to be in South Korea in the coming months.

It looks like it's a gut feeling about safety for a lot of people. It is the same with me.

Jack Bauer says that the best solution to the problem would be for all countries to cut off aid to He-Who-Sports-the-Big-Hair. North Korea would crumble in months were this to happen. Sadly, that's not going to happen...and neither is war. Kim Jong-Il knows that any war would lead to his annihilation. He's insane, but cares about his own hide. Jack says that's all he cares about.

Am I scared of North Korea? Of course. They have a massive army 2 hours from where I live.

Do I believe that army will be mobilized against the South? No.

They are in their dying days. They have no ideological allies. China won't step in again, Russia is too much a mess to do much short of some rouges selling them some guns and anyone else that may stand behind them on the basis of hating the "US imperialists" is currently being sanctioned, bombed or otherwise embargoed into flaccidity by the west.

I really believe that it will be a quiet, diplomatic end to the regime.

I do believe also, as was stated earlier, that Koreans do lack a certain sensitivity at bargaining, so thankfully, we have the continuing 6-party negotiations.

Anyone who truly believes that the North will attack is suicidal for being here. It could, theoretically, happen at any moment.
