It all depends on what you are used to. Some could spend several hundred dollars a week and feel like a king and others could spend several thousand dollars and never feel like one.
Generally though, here are what I would consider to be reasonable ranges:
Transportation (depends greatly on length and frequency of trips)
- 3,000 won per day using buses and subway
- 8,000 won per day using cabs
Food
- 15,000 per day (average fast food Korean meal)
- 30,000 per day (average fast food Western meal)
Internet
- 10,000-30,000 per month
Utilities
- 20,000-100,000 per month (depending on energy usage)
Cell phone
- 30,000-50,000 per month |

That reminds me: if you come during the winter, YOU WILL need more Most housing is ridicolous when it comes to isolation, and there are holes everywhere. You either get a bigger gas bill or pay up to have those fixed unless you're lucky the person before you fixed it.
But: 10.000 for internet? That's uber cheap. Also 20.000 for utilities seems extremely low (there's a s***load of "utilities" that add up, my bill base, with no usage was 40.000KRW for 65m2, but that is NO USAGE base bill)
You can do a lot less for the phone though. I can't think of spending that much on cellphone a month, so I always got prepaid, use up 5000 for the 3G net package, and have just enough to abuse Skype to call others quite cheap and have a Korean number for others to reach me. |
