I think if you ARE sincerely concerned, you might want to think about going home. This type of stress isn't for everyone.

Me too, actually. Being on the south coast I think just waiting for the dust to settle would be the smart move.

Yes, you are a "newb."

I've heard a lot of people say "go south". Well, who knows if there will even be trains, buses etc working to get you to the south.

Yes, all of this can be brushed aside as "more rhetoric from North Korea". But, truthfully, nobody knows what Kim Jong Un is thinking, except Kim Jong Un. Maybe if it was his father we could brush it aside as "here we go again", but with Kim Jong Un, maybe he's all talk, but maybe it's not. There's no way to know. Maybe he is just taking tough to impress his people. Or, maybe he really will do something to further impress them. Who knows?! To just assume nothing is going to happen I think is naive.

I've lived in South Korea for over a year, and I'm not panicking or freaking out. Just curious and was wondering about other people's opinions. If you don't like the thread, then don't [Mod Edit] reply. No need to mock it.

That's nice language to be using big boy.

Do you even know what direction south is?

Agree. No point trying to head south especially if you don't have a place to stay or a car. Highways will all be jammed worse than the Chu-seok and New Year's holiday period. Just get as much food as possible and stay home until it's over.

Sorry luv, but being rattled by North Korean bluster is the first sign of a newb. Only newbs start such threads. Only newbs need to point out that they are actually one and a half. Nothing wrong with being a new arrival here (we were all there once) but there is a reason many of us won't talk to anyone at the pub who has been here less than five years.

Any plans for your big two year blow-out?...Oh that's right, we'll all be dead. Rolling Eyes

Wow, I wish I were as cool as you, being an ESL teacher for more than 5 years! Maybe you should look at your own life and ask yourself "Why the *beep* am I still doing this job after 5 years?" Every person I've met in Korea who has been here more than 3 years is running from something back home, most likely a thing called REALITY. So, congratulations on being here so long. I really commend you!

That's a lie.

There are basically only two plans if war breaks out (and it won't).

1) Stay put and hunker down.

2) Do whatever the authorities tell you to do - which may include ordering you to stop staying put and hunkering down and move out.

The country will be under martial law. Private vehicle use will be banned and roads will be reserved for official/military use only. If you try to drive anywhere, your car may simply be confiscated for official use. They will not be ASKING you if they can use your car. You may get away with it on back roads for a little while, but you're not going to get very far.

This info comes from the US's NEO (non-combatant evacuation operation) exercise "Courageous Channel" (though I have not participated in it in years), and the Canadian Consular Emergency Handbook.

Thank you. Where can I find this information myself?

Here's another lie. You've been here 1.5 years?

Thanks to the both of you! Now I just gotta get my damn alien card and I'll have a phone in no time!

1.5 years with no alien card?

But, what's this?
You're not a newb if you're 1.5 in? And based on the people you've met over 3, you're a loser if you're over 5 in? LOL! What an amazingly analytical mind you have there!

Oh that's a lie, too.
Little man, you have a lot to learn. Thankfully you've already mastered the LTE issue, and what a D10 visa is. Now, N.Koea!

And, good luck getting your pay!

Years ago (1995) when I registered with the Canadian embassy, they sent me a booklet. The NEO operations are (were?) run by the US military. You would report to an assembly point, and they would take you through the evacuation process, up to the point where you would board a plane. The NEO exercises were usually run in cousin with Foal Eagle. I have no idea of they do it any more, or if they invite non-dependant civilians to participate.

I will see if I can find the old booklet.

Add 200 won more to that swear jar.

He swore at me twice in a PM. I feel sorry for his students because he's got a foul mouth and a bad temper too.
