Apparently there was some Korean media coverage in Japan. Kyunghyang posted the video of the fight on youtube.

Danny Garcia and Zab Judah are fighting this coming weekend as is Amir Khan again Julio Diaz. It's interesting to note that Kim is ranked 8th in the WBC rankings, Garcia is the champion, and Judah is currently ranked 10th. Khan was ranked 7th before going up to welterweight. Kim Minwook has still some way to go, but as far as rankings go, he's not that far from the global stage.

Yeah it was pretty close. Iawbuchi has a good chin. This was Minwook's first time to fight all 12 rounds and I think it showed when he slowed down a bit. I also thought that first "slip" should've been a knockdown since Minwook did connect when Iawbuchi went down.

I just saw this on a Korean site, but apparently Kim might go up into the top 5 of the WBC rankings after this fight. It'll be nuts if he gets a fight with Garcia in the near future.

All fights on the undercard featured Korean fighters against Japanese guys including a Ghanan fighter who resides in Japan. One Korean won by decision, one won by KO, while remaining two lost by TKO and a decision.

That goes for almost everybody who fights Floyd. It's probably more likely Floyds knocks him out. Can't see how Robert will win this unless he brings a gun to the ring.

I would bet if the odds were better.

Anywho, Jihoon Kim is fighting Mauricio Herrera on ESPN right now.

I watched only the first round of the Kim-Herrera fight (because I have to get up very early tomorrow) but Teddy Atlas pointed out some vulnerabilities in Kim that he thought Herrera should be able to take advantage of...(I vaguely remember Atlas expressing his hope that Kim would take a long layoff to recuperate after his last fight on ESPN, reasoning that he was too game for his own good ...)

Kim's flaws are no secret. I can't believe how little he has improved since I first saw him fight 4 years ago. I'm honestly worried he's going to be really messed up if he keeps fighting like this.

That being said, Herrera is slowing down a bit. Kim's aggression is hard to deal with consistently throughout the fight. Herrera should still win this though.

Mayweather vs Guerrero is on right now. Mayweather is ripping Robert apart now. Good fight.

If you think about it, its crazy how much of a skill difference there is. Guerrero is a younger guy who is 4 weight class world champ himself. He's no bum and he looks like one against Floyd.

*Update

Some big news for Korean boxing.

On Sunday August 18th, Minwook Kim will defend his OPBF title for the fourth time against Japanese challenger Valentine Hosokawa (16-3-3). In case of confusion of why Hosokawa is black (I know some people will be wondering), he is half Nigerian. The fight will take place in Jung Gu Sports Center. I'm told tickets are 10,000 won but I am not sure how to get a hold of them.

The event will also feature female WBO titlist Suyun Hong's fight against Japanese Mari Ando for a WBO and WBA unification bout.

The real big news is that after Kim's fight, he will be joining Manny Pacquiao's camp as a sparring partner for Pac's upcoming fight with Brandon Rios.

This is a step toward Minwook's (and perhaps Korean boxing as a whole) entrance to the world level. Hopefully this will expose him to the international boxing community and get him some clout globally. Not to mention the experience he will gain by being in the ring with one of the best fighters in the world. Next thing you know, he might be featured in fights promoted by Top Rank.

I'm pretty happy for Minwook, my gym and for myself. Since Hosokawa is about my height and has a similar style, I've been sparring with Minwook for his camp. I was originally supposed to fight on the undercard of his upcoming match but that got changed. Regardless, I feel a bit of pride that I helped, even a little bit, arguably the best active boxer in this country.

On international news, the big upcoming event will be Mayweather vs Canelo Alvarez. What's even more exciting is that this event will also feature Garcia vs Matthysee, which will be a lot of action. I'm more excited about the Garcia fight since as usual, I figure Mayweather will school Canelo.
