They should probably turn the volume up louder so the deaf people can hear it better. |

We'll asumme you mean blind. Back home they just have braile, as sound can not guide them through the whole process. Or there are earplug ports to get vocalised directions. |

cant say it ever bothered me.
anyway, with regard to what steelrails may having been trying to get at in his little convoluted way, i don't know how atms would benefit blind people with alot of talking? most of them are touch screen . Youd have to daredevil to use them if you didnt have sight. how would you know where to touch?
and deaf people can still see...

They're deaf, not blind. Why does a deaf person need to 'hear' anything during a bank transaction. Like anyone else, they can look at the screen.
For visually impaired persons there should be a button they push to get audio support. And there's no reason why the volume should be so high, or that they need to articulate every single step. They are visually impaired, not stupid, and have likely used an ATM hundreds of times before. Visually impaired people, moreover, make up a tiny percentage of customers using ATM's. As the OP stated, there's no reason why the other 99.9% of us have to endure the loud narration every time we take out some money.
If Koreans are anything, they are loud. |

You guys will complain about anything.
My ATM complaint is how you deposit and withdraw money. The automated door that opens scares me and I feel that my fingers will one day be sliced off. Or at the very least, bruised. |

Aww crap. Did I just write that?
Pile it on boys. I deserve it.
In my defense I was splitting time between the NHL playoffs and this when I was writing...
Anyways, besides the blind (crap I suck), there are also the illiterate and those who perhaps aren't the most computer-inclined. You know, perhaps pretty much anyone over 60.
The point is, just because YOU don't need or appreciate the voice instructions and prompts, doesn't mean there aren't people, in all likelihood in the "vulnerable" or "disabled" category, who appreciate the messages. |

It bothers me sometimes, but I've never felt like I need to come on ESLCafe and make a new post about it.
The Hana Bank bill-payment machines absolutely will not shut up, I'm pushing buttons faster than the ATM can complete what it wants to say for each screen.

I'm not really committed to arguing this point, but it sometimes feels like people go overboard with some obvious "vulnerable" or "disabled services. Like, they have buses to service people in wheelchairs, and it feels like half of the buses on a given line are those handicapped buses. There are fewer seats on them, and the seats tend to be a thousand times more uncomfortable, so they could at least not run the buses during rush hour or something. |

There are ways to do things, then there's the Korean way. The latter inevitably involves far more noise than is reasonably required. It's part of the same mentality that allows my neighbor to watch television at maximum volume, set his phone at maximum volume, and talk at the top of his lungs.
Even if I was blind, I'd think Korean ATM machines were too loud. Remember many people who are visually impaired have keener hearing. They don't need (or want) to endure excessive noise when using an ATM machine any more than you or I do. |

The volume at the ATMs in my town varies incredibly from ear-shattering, to near mute. Seems like that's an argument to take up with the individual branch.
But the OP was complaining about their being voice for every choice. As I maintain, that's there for the disabled (not tripping over blind-deaf again!), the illiterate, the elderly, and anyone else who might appreciate the verbal instructions.
Is it annoying for us? Sure, but show some compassion. I mean, really, 30 years ago, having a computer that spoke to you would be remarkable and people would get a kick out of it. Lighten up.

That's a fair point. |

Well don't use my God's name as a swear word, it's a very personal subject for me. That's all I ask. I gaurantee you it's ten times more offensive to me than whatever you think it is I get away with. I just re worded the offensive words the OP made and made it positive. I didnt write anything or add anything to it.
And if you think the mods are lenient, maybe they are--but I don't cuss or swear which many of you do which is also against the rules. |
It's not our responsibility to hold sacred the same things you do, nor is it our duty to avoid offending you. |

Stephen fry summed it up perfectly;
'It's now very common to hear people say, "I'm rather offended by that", as if that gives them certain rights. It's no more than a whine. It has no meaning, it has no purpose, it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. "I'm offended by that." Well, so funking what?' |

You have no idea what you are talking about. If you can't debate an issue with me without throwing me into an arbitrary group and then attacking the perceived shortcomings of that group, then just don't bother.
EDIT: re Dodge |
