Because it often is.

Here let's give 2 scenarios from real life cases.


Case 1. Small hakwon with only one foreign teacher. Foreign teacher up and leaves. Mothers pull kids from hakwon. Boss loses money. Other Korean teachers are let go because boss doesn't have enough money to pay them.

Case 2. Big hakwon with several foreign teachers. One of them ups and leaves. His classes are then separated and divided among the other foreign teachers who are now doing more work for the same pay. If the boss is decent he will find another foreign teacher...but that often takes time (a month or more as some people have claimed).


As for what makes it different from our home countries...nothing much.

If you bring in a specialist who is the best at doing a certain job and he or she leaves abruptly...that leaves a hole in any company.

Of course if he is planning on giving notice and giving the boss time to find a replacement then it is on the boss's shoulders and not his.
