Malawians don't eat khat, imbecile.
Maybe you're thinking of the middle east somewhere.

I've met several Malawians, they're about the nicest most chilled-out people you could wish to meet.
They don't deserve to be put through the abusive DDD trauma that probably awaits them. |

| What is the unemployment rate for young Korean workers? |
Too high - as much as 25% in some demographic groups
BUT
a better question would be, "How many young Korean workers would be willing to work in DDD jobs rather than be unemployed?"
They import D3 labor because Korean won't do those jobs (at any reasonable wage).
. |
But, what are these jobs paying? I agree they suck. I had quit a toilet paper factory summer job years ago after the second shift. Was no good, 12 hour shifts, and not such great pay. That said, if they had of paid 15 to 20 bucks an hour instead of 8 at that time, I would have stuck it out changing shifts and odd days off and all. What are these migrant workers being paid - 2 bucks an hour? Since minimum wage is 4000 wonish i hear, paying over man won an hour might attract some of these folks. (Maybe they do already and I'm just too daft to know it.) |
15-20k won per hour for menial labor isn't going to happen any time soon.
The current minimum wage is 4860won/hr (about 1016k won - $900/mo) based on a 8 hour day/40 hour work week. |
He's talking about back home though.
I'm sure plenty of people would do it for 10k an hour. That's over 1.6M for only 40 hours a week with 4 weeks a month (so a bit more), 20M at 50 hours a week.
After all, the Korean government i sponsoring health care for migrant workers and someone has to foot the plane, food and lodging. I'm sure it's economical, but I doubt they're saving that much by taking people from abroad.
I guess it's mainly a recruiting issue where people don't want to work in factories because of low status. They'd rather... I don't know what people do. |

This sounds like a disastrous idea on the face of it. 100,000
This is definitely not going to go down well, and quite frankly, I don't blame Koreans for being mad about this (if indeed they are). I'd be pretty furious if 100,000 third worlders suddenly came to my country too. |

| There's obviously a need for them if the Korean government agreed to grant them all visas (unless the Malawian government bribed them, I guess). Koreans wouldn't do those jobs for any reasonable wage, and even at a reasonable wage, many would rather stay unemployed than take a job they perceive as beneath them. Especially when they have their parents supporting them while they look for a good job. |

Korean 삼겹살 number 1! |
Nothing racist about this post at all! I think you might have literally hit on every anti-black stereotype ever, short of making a joke about they're gonna love South Korea cause of the fried chicken. You even got the machete in! Good man. I'm gonna hazard a guess here and say you're S.A.?
And of course they will be AIDS tested. So were you. So was I. Duh.
Reading the article, I loved how the prez insisted it was not slavery lol. These guys are going to be working 3-D's, no question! |

You're obviously no American and not privy to Obama wanting to provide amnesty for millions of third worlders. |

| This is great for the Korean economy. Most Cheabol companies have to hire farmers with no education to do technical manufacturing work. I know that they don't take direction well and make huge mistakes that cost a fortune. The Malawi kids are going to be better educated, they will probably be a quarter of the price and 5 times more effective. |

Just like Reagan did, the elder Bush did, all the presidents have. We've been doing it for years.
Let Korea handle thier own business and stop projecting.
Also the article said up to 100,000 it said nothing about they were all coming at the same time. Logically and logistically it would be very difficult to accomodate all those at the same time. In all likelihood the Korean government will bring a small number on a trial basis and expand it if it goes well and they iron out any problems. If it doesn't they'll stop it. I see nothing where Sk is oblgated to bring them in. The SK government has ample workers from the phllipines, vietnam, etc. It just gives them another option. |

This is how the Europeans and the USA Empires grew to dominate the world in the 1800, and 1900. Colonize third world countries and force their people to produce goods for your corporations to sell to other rich markets at high prices.
Wake up. Korea is just doing what the Europeans did then the USA did with African slaves. It's not pretty but it is pretty solid economic theory when you can get "lesser humans" to work for low wages and your own people can reap the benefits of a service economy = look no further than European capitals 150 years ago.
Korea is not forcing these guys anyway. They are getting more in Korea than they could in Malawi so it is a win-win. The loser as usual is the Korean college graduate. The winner is rich people who already have jobs.
Any americans should not be hypocritical about this. Neither should any europeans. Your living standards have been built on the backs of the poor in your countries and colonized populations in South America, Indonesia, India, South Asia, Africa.
Don't blame Korea...they are quick learners. |

I seriously doubt that Koreans would work in factory for 10k an hour when they can work far easier jobs like taxi drivers or delivery drivers for nearly the same pay or more. If the companies paid more than 2.0 million a month they may get a low skilled Korean man to work in a dirty factory .

When did S.K. colonize anybody? Must have missed that headline. |

I wonder how many immigrants will stay in Korea. Will they be able to integrate into Korean society or will we start seeing areas of Seoul becoming little America, little Africa, etc.
I see a lot of Western countries struggling with the integration aspect of immigrants. |
