How exactly can a person be aloof yet smug?

Surely the very definition of being aloof is to remove yourself from any kind of proceedings - can that really be done in a self-righteous manner?

I've never met a British person claiming to be an expert on American culture - and in all honesty I cannot think of a single reason why any person would want to claim such a thing...

Your aloof/smug comment makes no sense, of course you can be both, what are you talking about? Anyway, you quoted the wrong person initially.

The second part of what you wrote is also nonsense. No one would claim to be an expert on American culture... but I've run into a hell of a lot of non-Americans who seem to have thought that they were to some degree. Especially our northern neighbors.

Funny how British people are always bragging about how influential their country is and never coming back once they see the outside world. Laughing

Are they really bragging about that?

Who exactly does this bragging?

And when?

And how?

Do you have any proof of said bragging?

I don't know why you quoted me as saying this. IPayInCash wrote what you attributed to me. And I wrote this:

Do not make too much of this. I believe British ex-pats have their choice of just about any European locale as home.
