I was with a friend from the DoD and he told me to go look at the magazines while he paid for the stuff I wanted. Wasn't going to risk me standing next to him while he paid.
They had 6 Sam Adams for $7 something, certainly beats paying 7,000w for one in a bar.
Bentleys is alright for a few drinks and cheap enough. Oasis has that Mexican buffet every night but it looks shit. Steaks were ok.
OP - go find someone to get you on or you'll have to pay over the odds in somewhere like High Street Market |

You might try the USO if you want to be around the army base. It has a good café in it, in fact it's very good for the price. It cooks typical American food that you would find at home in a café. |

That cafe has long since closed down, right around 2010. Having been there and looking at the prices, something like $3.25 for a burger and fries, they probably closed for lack of profit. |

Sad, 2010 was when I left Korea. I used to eat there occasionally. You would get meat loaf, turkey and other stuff there. |

I think you may be behind the times. The USO in Seoul had what they called a soft opening on 26 August this year. Check out their Facebook page and you'll see a lot of photos of the remodeling. There's also a comment on the page about the grand opening being changed to September this year.

Is it true that military personnel can have goods shipped from the USA duty free? That could be more useful then being allowed on base. |
Military personnel can have stuff sent to their APO/FPO addresses, which are US mailing addresses; however, the same restrictions--plus a couple of others--that apply to shopping on base apply to the APO/FPO mail. Again, if caught using the mailing address to skirt the customs laws for non-SOFA personnel, the SOFA sponsor will face prosecution or administrative procedures. One admin procedure for civilian SOFA personnel is simply being fired and kicked out of the country. |

incorrect, that uso is on post near the dragon hill lodge, you aint gonna get near that one unless you are signed on.
not sure about the status of the "old" uso which was near Namyeong station and the Kaya Hotel, haven't been there in years but that one you could walk into and thats where the old canteen was and they had a decent selection of us magazines at a decent price, along with a pretty good travel agent. |

Thanks! I haven't been there for quite some time myself.

I was there in January this year and it looked pretty good. I've no idea if they moved all that stuff over to the new one near DHL. |

That's what I was about to post. The USO was available to anyone and everyone before, but now that it's on the base, that's no longer true.
Too bad. Because of work schedules, I was never able to get some of their food, then once I had a decent schedule, it closed. |

That's a pity, because these unscrupulous Korean merchants don't think twice about adding huge mark-ups onto goods imported from the States. For instance, a guitar pickup in the USA is around $100. Here in Korea 180,000. Ridiculous. |

How about the near 300% markup on bicycles/bicycle parts? Don't even get me started on that one. |
