The father might have been an ass who smacked his kid and the guys he were arguing with were giving him grief about smacking his kid.

Or the girl was crying about dropping her ice cream and the guys were arguing about the Doosan-LG series.

As with all of these- We don't know what's going on and what caused things.

Do you know how Koreans misinterpret the friendly debates people get into over politics or gun control or America vs. Canada or Arsenal vs. Tottenham or whether Miley Cyrus is out of control and think that we are actually angry and upset with each other, but think we're angry and on the verge of blows?

Don't make the same mistake in reverse with Koreans, especially when you raise the stakes to punches and glaring.

If you want to calm things down, do what Popocatepetl suggested. That buys you time to figure out what the full story is and doesn't commit you to any one side to the point that you are risking incarceration.

Advice duly noted. Nothing did happen as nothing more came of the whole event. I just hate seeing kids abused and adrenelin kicked in. (Maybe she was or wasn't; I couldn't tell upon closer inspection.) I don't fear many Korean guys, but the cops here afterwards maybe a little. Ha ha.

It's never worth getting involved as in most cases the foreigner is going to end up on the losing end charged and arrested. If you see something happening you are better off calling the police, or getting someone to help you call the police.
