I have yet to meet a kid that plays "mind games." Did it ever occur to you that some kids are shy or don't like to speak out in front of others? It doesn't mean they're stupid; it doesn't mean they are deliberately disobeying you... they're just not very outspoken. You may be surprised to know many adults are the same.
You should get off your power trip and cut these kids some slack. Do you feel mighty and important when you write certain kids off or intimidate them? No wonder they won't talk to you. |
Patrick, it isn't like that at all, trust me, please. |

Thanks for your replies. However,
The "cats" I'm talking about are adults, not kids.
It obviously takes a dedicated teacher to reach the quiet shy adults. But how? I am hoping that anyone could shead some light on this.
Thank you. |

I suggest you tell your director that you're having a bit of trouble getting this student to participate. Ask them to talk to the student, and in a subtle way, find out if there's anything different you could be doing in the class so that he/she would feel comfortable participating.
Your boss may appreciate your dedication and it's a chance for the student to share his/her feelings about the class without critisizing you face to face.
If the director does it in a very casual way, it should work out fine. |
