They also run many columns from fortune tellers. Many of their political cartoons are nasty and childish, too. It makes you wonder exactly who is in charge there.

They used to employ foreign "interns" but I hear it is not a well-run ship. Basically imagine your worst hogwon.

Quote:
According to American news outlet Fox Sports, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) distributed 100,000 condoms to participating athletes during the Olympics or even more if necessary.

The 2012 London Olympics had stocked some 150,000 condoms. The 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics had initially prepared 100,000 condoms but had to supply more after they ran out in just a week.

In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, approximately 400,000 free condoms were handed out to athletes

Sochi drew from across the world roughly 3,000 athletes

The Korea Times is a rag that makes Fox News actually seem fair and balanced. Think CNN production values with Fox impartiality, being poorly implemented and you are coming close to describing this paper.

The Korea Times isn't written for people like us who have lived in at least 2 countries. It is written for Korean's who want to practice their Korean, but have so little desire to analyse the world we live in that they don't look at CNN, Reuters, the New York Times or even Voice of America, which being in available in Special English should be comprehendible for most people who have attended school here.

Now stereotypes are a great way to quickly categorise peoples, but the difference for the average city dwelling Australian and the average city dwelling Korean, is the Australian knows people who don't fit the stereotype, the Korean stoner, or the blond physics major. The average Korean probably hasn't even met people that fulfil the stereotype, let alone those that don't.

So when you see a story like a guy having sex with a dog, this will appeal to some Koreans, because some foreigners are Japanese, the Japanese are stereotypically perverted, this person is perverted, and they aren't Korean so all 외국인 are perverts. Hence the stereotype is proved and must be true.

I've found it better for my blood pressure not to look at any Korean English news source, although like I do with Fox, I will sometimes look at the Korea Times, as such stupidity is funny even if its ultimately evil and holding back the country of my daughter's birth, and blood for the nazi types out there. (My stereotype!)

Which is the best out there? Joong-Ang? KHerald? I'm guessing probably not the Chosun-ilbo, though they do have occasional pieces on NKorea-related stuff that are half worthwhile.

The Korea Times should just go full tabloid. Make the New York Post look like a serious publication in comparison. Start doing those classic "?" headlines. "Kim Jong Eun- Secretly into Bestiality?" "Girls Generation Accused of Infighting- What Do YOU Believe?" "Rain Photographed Drinking the Day Before Breakup With GF- Could it Have Contributed to Their Split?"

Who cares? Don't you know that the print-media is dead? Laughing

Simple Rule: If you can read it without paying for it then it ain't worth the money.

e.g. New York Times: you get 5 freebies and then you gotta pay or wait until next month.

The men pictured are referred to by name in the article and are among the world's most famous athletes, so what's wrong with showing their pictures? Personally, I would rather have seen the Sweedish vollyball athletes that were also mentioned.

For me, ...

The Joong-Ahn for most topics EXCEPT anything related to Samsung.
The Chosun for NK topics.
The Hanky for social affairs.
The Herald for human interest.

This is one of the dumbest threads I've ever read. The OP finds ONE article out of many and decides that it's racist and discriminatory against foreigners.

Not realizing that basically the same article was posted on many other big news sites.

Basically some people are either born with, or have developed a "racism filter" in which everything they read or see will be processed through this filter and allow them to make quick, silly judgments.

How can you take the Korea Times seriously when they print nonsense like this:

http://koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/culture/2014/01/135_149932.html

It's a regular column, too

I'm not the type of person who sees racism everywhere that I look. The article has been printed in other sources but why didn't other sources feel the need to put a picture of two black athletes at the top?? Especially in a country that is known for discriminating against black males marrying their precious daughters...Seriously every time someone tells me that Korea doesn't have a problem in this area, I ask what their parents would say if they wanted to marry a black person..

Maybe if you call them out on their crap, they will at least make a half-hearted attempt to get some quality editors

Quote:
Korean soccer team avenged Kim the same year in the Korea-U.S. World Cup match. Ahn Jung-hwan celebrated his score by imitating Ohno’s “Hollywood action” drawing nationwide support which was deemed as “some sort of justice having been served.”

who wrote this? Someone from the third grade? The Olympics is about political protests and avenging the "wrongs" that have been done to your country?

ohh the Japanese are provoking us...look I'll write this article showing how provoked I am.

I think some of you need a break from the constant "outrage" mode you seem to live in...

Outrage is the state of the world, and that includes yourself.

I think that's the Korean equivalent of the horoscopes.
