Seriously though, with the boric acid, can anyone give me any advice on what products to use with it? I've been told I shouldn't use the gel bait and boric acid at the same time but I'm not really sure why. I'm thinking for round 2 I'll just very lightly sprinkle some BA around the perimeter of my apartment, wait a few days, then use the gel?

How much time should I give the boric acid?

I'm assuming sprays are a bad idea?

with boric acid it took about a week before i noticed a bunch of crippled cockroaches walking around in daylight.

i use the gel for cracks, boric acid against the walls (where they usually run), and i mix boric acid with maple syrup and flour and make roach bombs. I usually place them outside my house to keep the little bastards at bay.

you should feel lucky though. german roaches are no where near as disgusting and large as oriental roaches Shocked

Just for a moment, we'll get serious and answer your question.

If you really want to get rid of them for good, ask someone back home to send you some Diatomaceous earth. It cuts the bugs open and kills them dead. You just spread it around where they normally hang out. Don't give them choices, spread it all over the place. Just not where near where you sleep because it can be toxic.

*****NOTE: if you buy DE make sure you buy the FOOD GRADE as the stuff they sell for pool filters is very toxic to people and pets.

Not sure what "German" cockroaches are, but I had an awful experience with huge monsters the size of mice when I was in Myanmar. Every night it was a battle to keep the army from coming under the doors. Did not know till after I was in the apartment that there was a huge garbage dump at the base of the building...people through their garbage bags down a shoot and it just piled up below. No one took it away. Awful. I did not stay there long.

However, I kept them at bay by pouring baking soda (abundantly) (I kept a number of boxes handy...it's cheap)...around the edges of the doorways. I also sprayed (something I hate and usually avoid) Raid cockroach stuff that people there use like it is the normal thing to do.

(I have never heard of using various foods as bait...is that a joke?...not very logical...the scent of the food would just draw more than you are already dealing with....)

mr_thehorse was talking about what's referred to as "roach food" in the article.

or, get your boss/landlord to call cesco. we used them before with pretty good results, even though they're a bit costly.

Roach Bully sounds good...would be good to know what it is made of...

"Roach food" to me does not seem like a good idea. Though the boric acid by itself does, leaving flour and cocoa would draw more even if you thought you had killed them...leaving it around draws more.

Similar concept when trying to catch mice...people bait their mousetraps with peanut butter and leave them around. Yeah...it works...but the scent draws more than were there in the first place.

Hey this is actually a really nice place! 3 bedroom villa all to myself right next to the subway station. Just got some unwanted room mates that I need to get out.

Like I said, saw them nearly daily but after buying some products there was at least a month where I saw none.. then.. 3 in one week.

Havent seen any since *knock on wood*. I dunno maybe a neighbor sprayed and scattered them or maybe its the warm weather.

Maybe Ill torch the place eventually but first Im gonna try to deal with it.

Go to a hardware store and get yourself a caulk gun and about 15 canisters of clear or white caulk. Also purchase some spray foam (expanding insulation / or caulking foam). Clean your place perfectly. Then, go to town closing all gaps on your floor boards, base boards, areas under cabinetry, cupboards, under-lining... all of that. Take the fridge out and put it in the center of the kitchen. Cover any possible crack in your entire apartment. After all is sealed, fumigate your apartment and use all insect/roach killer imaginable. Sealing the apartment with caulk and expanding foam under kitchen/bathroom cabinetry or gaps could take up to a full day of work. I know, because I had to do it myself in an apartment in Korea, but it worked. It's a great feeling when you know there isn't even an inch of gap for them to sneak into.

Worst thing is I let it get away under my sofa..

Eff this noise Im gonna go hit up a soju bottle

I'll give the same response I gave another poster awhile back about bed bugs. Burn that mother down! I can never get rid of cock roaches, those bastards seem to be able to withstand nuclear radiation.

I was pouring bleach everywhere, tried roach motels, etc. One night I came home a little tipsy, opened my door and saw a big one just sitting there on the side of one of my cabinets with his beady little eyes looking straight at me (I'm pretty sure he was looking at me, I really couldnt see his eyes thou). I paused, then threw my umbrella at it.....missed. Took a shoe off, threw it......missed. I finally walked up to it and grabbed it with a napkin. I walked over to the window and threw it out to teach them all a lesson, you mess with me you're gonna get tossed out the window!

I think I saw another one later that week, or it could have been the same one I threw out the window. Bastard came back to taunt me.....
