For craps sake, you even talk like someone who isn't native. Who the heck says infinitesimal? Who the hell knew that was actually a word until now? |
Is infinitesimal really that unusual a word? I use it, and I like it. I suspect, though, that he got it by typing 극미하다 into Naver Dictionary. I do the same thing when practicing Korean composition, and it's not uncommon for the people correcting my essays to point out my odd word choice, or at times not even be familiar with the word the dictionary gave me. |

I guess I do come across as super formal, that wasn't intentional it's just the way I write. So far this has been a fun lesson in internet law.
A) Are you a native English speaker from abroad currently employed by the EV as an English teacher?
Yes. My first contract started in November of 2012
B) Are you able to substantiate this in some way? (PM contact details of current teachers to an established forum member as SeoulNate suggested, or linking a picture of yourself by the school gate holding something proof-of-life-style that says "I'm a foreign employee here making these statements under no duress."? [although, if you're a gyopo...that's trickier] If you have a sense of humour, you might also tape up your hands and mouth.)
This might be a bad idea, but here is a link to the blog my wife keeps up that was started while we were living in NC. The next new post will be one including the picture stated above

So you don't have to go searching for the post of when we first got here here's a link to the archive page of November 2012

The next link is a link to my facebook page.

And lastly, here is a link to a video one of my co-workers made after their first month here at CEV. I'm not in it much but I'm the guy with the girly voice saying, "she stole mine."

I've heard but it's really not common in the USA, especially on the internet. |

Hum. I have to admit that at the moment I'm inclined to think I might have jumped the gun. Nicholas, it's not entirely uncommon for Koreans to pop onto this website pretending to be foreign teachers in order to rehabilitate the images of certain workplaces, and I think you can understand why attempts to do that are something of which some of us are wary. Coming to Korea is a big dive for most foreign teachers, and the trust shown in doing so is sometimes abused. It's less "Internet law" that's going on here than simple concern for our fellow teachers (combined perhaps with a measure of cynicism). I think you can understand that, right? |

Yep. It doesn't help you have a very dry writing style that is similar to how fluent non-natives write. |

I totally understand. I made a huge rookie mistake and my natural tone of writing is rather formal which didn't help. I blame my grammar nazi mother. This place is something worth protecting and it is sad that business people have no respect for that. |

jk lulz nick is not a korean and no one is holding a gun to his head, the boss is pretty laid back and the accomodations at the school are hella dope. Changnyeong is pretty far from busan and daegu. i would say that the only downside is distance to a big city. benefits and all are pretty standard, pay is average, pays on time, korean staff is nice |

Guy has 3 posts. Two are as low content as one can get and this one seems like it was written by a 13 year old.
Admin has to IP check this guy. Pretty astounding how far one will go to attempt to rebuild their horrid reputation. |

Good enough for me. (from your blog) Your whole teaching staff does TKD together? That's pretty neat.
I've seen firsthand an EV go from pleasant workplace to hellhole in just 3 months with only a couple managing personnel changes, so I don't have too hard a time believing this place could be have been revitalized from what was described 6 years ago.
What prompted you to post this though (now rather than at any other time)? Was the school having trouble finding new hires? |

The whole staff used to do taekwondo together. now it's down to three of us. My wife and I are going for our black belts soon.
We did have some trouble with new hires which prompted an internet search. Mind you had seen the post before we came but what surprised me was that after the links that take you to the official website the first link was to that really old post. I thought it was unsettling that this place I was working for had nothing else out in these forums. I waited a while so that I wasn't posting as a knee jerk reaction but, yeah, we saw how that worked out. even now I realise how boring this is to read as I write it. And to think I used to fancy myself as a denizen of the net. |
